Protest cards are good, but take best action by voting

On February 5, 2009
Robert A. Zibert, Beloit

To the editor:

I applaud and support Bishop Morlino’s efforts to prevent President Obama’s promise to sign the proposed “Freedom of Choice Act” by providing protest cards.

Unfortunately, the other paper with the power to end the scourge of abortion has already been tallied — this past November’s ballots — and the pro-abortion Democrats won the majority in Washington.

What incentive is there for the Democrats to seriously consider such a protest when they were elected with a pro-abortion platform? People keep voting for Democrats and — surprise — abortions continue and now may become even easier to obtain.

One definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Politicians understand two things — money and votes. Stop the insanity, stop voting for Democrats.

The Democratic Party is the lifeblood of the pro-abortion movement. Are there other reasons to vote for Democrats? Sure, but consider this: How can the Democratic Party claim to be the champions of justice for the poor, advocates of health care for all, the ultimate environmental steward, protector of all workers, anti-war, and leaders in education policy, with any legitimacy, when those wonderful ideals need to be followed with an asterisk, “* Aforementioned benefits granted provided our abortion policy doesn’t kill you first”?

Think about why you are filling out your protest card. Keep praying. Think about what your vote last fall really accomplished. Do not vote for Democrats in 2010.

Robert A. Zibert, Beloit
