St. Ambrose Christmas dinner

Hundreds of staunch supporters of Catholic education and St. Ambrose Academy flocked, or rather, skated, to the Bishop O’Connor Catholic Pastoral Center on December 19 after a huge snowstorm for Christmas Dinner With the Bishop, the school’s major fundraiser of the year.

Four parishes sponsor series on St. Paul

Last summer, Pope Benedict XVI announced a year of celebration in honor of St. Paul the Apostle to run from June 28, 2008 (feast day of the Conversion of St. Paul) to June 28, 2009. Placing our hands in God’s

Living and Learning column by Msgr. Daniel T. Ganshert

Kings and presidents. We just celebrated one and soon will inaugurate another. Epiphany manifests the long awaited Messiah and King. January 20th points to a new political administration for our country. Time for a little history.

Years ago, a king’s servant would fold his hands and place them in the hands of the king. The king would pledge his protection of the servant if the servant would pledge to protect the king.

Comments on Catholics in military off the mark

To the editor:

Fr. Jim Murphy’s comments about Catholic participation in military service are off the mark. Service in the armed forces by people of faith is difficult and requires those serving to deal with moral issues.

Thanks for timely articles, especially Fr. Dietzen’s

To the editor:

I want to thank you for the nice article “Santa Claus Lives on Forever” by Fr. John Dietzen (Catholic Herald, December 11 issue). It was very informative and interesting. I read it and then reread it two or three times more.

Promote peace in the Holy Land

It was especially distressing to follow news of the escalating conflict between Israel and Palestine during the Christmas season. How sad that the place of Jesus’ birth — the Holy Land — suffers from hostilities that seem insurmountable.
