Garden is dedicated in Pine Bluff for the unborn dead

PINE BLUFF — An estimated 300 people gathered May 24, on the Feast of Our Lady, Help of Christians, as Bishop Robert C. Morlino dedicated the new Miracle of Life Rosary Garden here.

“It was one of those moments when, gathered around our bishop we love so much, we truly felt like a Catholic family,” said Fr. Richard Heilman, pastor of St. Mary Parish, Pine Bluff. “Our Catholic beauty and identity were celebrated, beginning with a procession of some 20 altar servers, the Knights of Columbus Honor Guard, and about 50 Knights of Divine Mercy. The music was incredible as the Schola Cantorum of the Knights of Divine Mercy sang classic Latin pieces.

“And the dedication concluded with the youth releasing of a giant helium-balloon Rosary.,” he said. “Afterward, we all celebrated with a family-style potluck cookout. I knew an evening like this would leave indelible ‘Catholic’ mark, especially on the hearts of the youth gathered with us.”

The garden, presided over by Mary, Help of Christians, who stands on a flower-covered mound in the shape of her Immaculate Heart, honors children lost before birth. It is located, quite literally, beside the restful waters and verdant pastures of beautiful Pine Bluff, Wis. The sacred place was created to be a destination for solitude, prayer, and healing.

Observe pope’s 60th anniversary: And pray for all priestly vocations

Editor's View by Mary C. Uhler

This is the time of year when new priests and deacons are normally ordained. It naturally follows that many priests and deacons also celebrate their anniversaries of ordination.

We know many married couples, too, who are observing wedding anniversaries. Isn’t it wonderful to see couples married 25, 40, 50, and even 60 years or more who are still happy and in love with each other?

It’s just as nice to see priests and deacons who continue to be happy in their service to the Church. We are so fortunate to have these happy, holy men willing to give their lives to follow Christ and serve His people.

What is Eucharistic living?

Dear Friends,
Already it’s been about a month and a half since our celebration of Holy Week and Easter. Since that time, many have asked me to write here a bit of what I mentioned with regard to “Eucharistic living” during the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday.

Is conceal carry proposal necessary?

Eye on the Capitol by John Huebscher

The right to bear arms is protected by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and by the Wisconsin Constitution.

But that right, like many others, is not absolute and may be regulated to a certain extent. One such regulation is our state’s current ban on carrying concealed weapons.

Proposal up for consideration

Wisconsin is nearly alone in that regard. For some time this fact has fueled a desire to join other states in permitting citizens to carry a concealed weapon (CCW). Such legislation has passed twice in recent years only to be vetoed by Governor Doyle.
