Be voice of the voiceless; participate in 40 Days for Life

To the editor:

Do I/we hear the cry of the poor?  Who are the voiceless, the hopeless, the helpless people in our society?

As a family nurse practitioner, I have provided health care in a variety of ways, to the person dying with a terminally ill disease; to Krystal and Adam unable to feed themselves, or walk or talk; to a mom who died in bed with the doctor making an incision to lift her baby son from her womb into my arms. Your life stories could be added.

Renovated student chapel blessed in Platteville

PLATTEVILLE — A new era at St. Augustine University Catholic Parish began on September 8 when Bishop Robert C. Morlino of Madison blessed the recently-renovated chapel.

The project lasted all summer and “was well worth it,” according to parish development director Carly Hood.

The project came to life from the suggestions of parishioners. Hood met with many of them back in December when she first moved to the area.

¡Gracias a Dios!

Going forward and looking back

MADISON — As the 2013 National Assembly of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul entered its third full scheduled day of events, it was a time to look back on how all the society’s works started.

The year 2013 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Blessed Frédéric Ozanam, founder of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

Retreat on Ozanam’s life

A crowded Grand Ballroom at the Concourse Hotel in Madison, filled with members and volunteers from all across the country, spent part of the morning in a retreat, reflecting on Ozanam’s life.

The retreat was led by Ralph Middlecamp, society executive director for the district council of Madison, and by Sr. Kieran Kneaves, Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul since 1958.
