All people are children of the same God?

To the editor:

In the January 21 issue of the Catholic Herald is an article about Pope Francis’ visit to a synagogue where he made the statement that all people are children of the same God.

Really??? That is not the teaching of the Scripture. 1 Peter 1:23-25 tells us that we become the children of God through receiving the gospel; Jesus is the Son of God, who came to the earth to die for the forgiveness of sins and will return to gather in those who are His and punish those who are not.

‘Surge of the Heart’ mission in Montello

MONTELLO — St. John the Baptist Parish in Montello and Good Shepherd Parish in Westfield invite everyone to take part in their upcoming “Surge of the Heart” Parish Mission.

Guest speaker is Jon Leonetti, an international Catholic speaker and author of two books entitled Mission of the Family and Your God Is Too Boring.

The parish mission will begin on Sunday, Feb. 7. A light lunch will be offered before Leonetti’s talk from 11:45 a.m. up to the time of the first talk at 1 p.m. in the St. John the Baptist Parish Center, 277 E. Montello St. Each of Leonetti’s talks is one hour long.

Boy’s death prompts calls for no more violence

There has been so much senseless violence in our country and throughout the world, but the shooting of a five-year-old boy in Beloit, Wis., on January 22 brought tears to my eyes.

Austin Ramos, Jr., was riding in the back seat of his father’s car when an SUV pulled up alongside the car and someone opened fire. The boy was shot and died at a local hospital. So far, there have been no arrests. Authorities are still looking for the perpetrator.

Pilgrimage trip to St. Nazianz monastery

ST. NAZIANZ — The Cathedral Parish in Madison will sponsor a pilgrimage on Saturday, Feb. 6, to Holy Resurrection Monastery, a Byzantine monastery of the Romanian Greek-Catholic Church in St. Nazianz.

The coach bus will leave from St. Patrick Church in Madison at 7 a.m. and return around 5 p.m.

All boys Catholic school will open in Sauk City

SAUK CITY — Shoreless Lake Middle School, an all boys school, will be opening in September, 2016, in Divine Mercy Parish, Sauk City.

The priests and Consecrated Women of the Society of Jesus Christ the Priest, have been working to establish a middle school here for young male students that will guarantee an integral and total education based in Catholic values and tradition.

According to Fr. Pedro Escribano, the school’s principal, “Shoreless Lake School will provide students with an intellectual and scientific formation of the highest calibre.”
