On the back of my driver’s license, I have signed an anatomical gift statement which says: “Upon my death, I wish to donate all organs, tissues, or eyes.”
I believe being an organ and tissue donor is one way that I can help save and heal other lives, even after I die. It is estimated that one donor can save up to eight lives.
April is designated as National Donate Life Month. This is a time to encourage people to consider being an organ, tissue, and eye donor.

Somber words. One should say, inappropriate words for Easter Sunday.
They come from the American poet Wallace Stevens, an excerpt from his poem, Sunday Morning.
“Go forth, the Mass is ended.”
As Transitional Deacon Grant Thies proclaimed those words at the end of the Chrism Mass on March 27 at St. Maria Goretti Church in Madison, he meant more than just a dismissal.
Recently the sun shone gently on the slopes of the river bank as my four children ran alongside it, shouting and laughing at their stick boats they’d sent downriver.
“Here comes mine!” they shouted excitedly as their sticks bobbed over the ripples in the water.

On Tuesday of Holy Week, we celebrated our Diocesan Chrism Mass. This Mass, in which I bless and consecrate all of the Holy Oils that are used throughout the diocese for the year and distribute them to each of our parishes, is also the Mass wherein the priests renew the promises they made on the day of their ordination.

Zayden, son of Jenny and Kevin Gess, was born prematurely six months ago with multiple medical challenges along with Down Syndrome. He continues to be cared for at American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison.MADISON — Edgewood College will welcome young minds to its annual Family Science Night.
This community event features numerous hands-on science exploration stations where curious people of all ages can dig into science discovery and phenomenon.
