Importance of Catholic schools today
This is the third and last article in a series leading up to Catholic School Informational Sunday on August 9.
Why do Catholic schools exist? When you look at this from a student’s view, there are two clear goals: 1) College and 2) Heaven. While we hope that students realize these goals in this order, Heaven is clearly the more important of the two.
Seeing our Lord as ‘Daddy’ and Hero
“Daddy’s home!” my 10-year-old son sang out as he heard the garage door open.
His siblings cheered and danced toward the door as it opened to reveal their very tired, but smiling, daddy after a hard day’s work.
“Give him time to rest,” I whispered into my son’s ear. He nodded but simply could not contain the excitement of sharing with his daddy the events of the day and what he still wanted to do.

MADISON — Using a quote from St. Teresa of Calcutta, Mitzi Liu posted a notice in the Good Shepherd Parish bulletin this spring seeking volunteers for the annual summer festival scheduled for this Sunday, Aug. 12, from 12 noon to 9 p.m. at its St. Joseph Church located at 1905 W. Beltline Hwy.

For the past several days, I’ve been with my Word on Fire team, filming for the Flannery O’Connor and Fulton Sheen episodes of our Pivotal Players series. Our journey has taken us from Chicago to New York to Washington, D.C., and finally to Savannah and Millidgeville, Ga.
Totus Tuus: God, friends, and fun
SAUK CITY — “The kids are awesome,” said Totus Tuus team member Jack Morris, adding, “It’s really nice to see them grow throughout the course of one short week” and he is blessed to feel he “played a small part in their formation” which is “very rewarding”.
For the fifth summer in a row, the Diocese of Madison presented the Totus Tuus program for youth.
Totus Tuus is dedicated to sharing the Gospel and promoting the Catholic faith through evangelization, catechesis, Christian witness, and Eucharistic worship.

Support our Catholic schools
When my 91-year-old mother-in-law Ruth died last year, she suggested that people give memorials to Aquinas High School in La Crosse, her alma mater. She believed she had an excellent education at Aquinas, and she wanted to ensure that it remained around to educate future generations.
That is one way we can support our Catholic schools. Many of us experienced top-notch educations at our Catholic elementary and high schools as I did. We continue to support these schools with our time, talent, and treasure. Many of us are also parents of students who attended Catholic schools, and we support those schools, too.
