Expressing appreciation for All Saints Neighborhood dedicated staff, volunteers

To the editor:

September 9 to 15 is National Assisted Living Week. This annual observance was established by The National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) as a way to celebrate those who choose this type of living option and the caring, dedicated staff members who serve them; and to educate the general public about the importance and benefits of this type of long term care. This year’s theme is “Capture the Moment.”

Bi-partisan options available on climate change

To the editor:

It’s not your imagination, the floods that rocked southern, western, and central Wisconsin the past several weeks are getting worse and are occurring more often. The culprit: too much carbon dioxide in our atmosphere has put storms on steroids. Warmer air holds more water and storms have gotten more severe.

The good news is that solutions exist that won’t break the bank and are much less costly than cleaning up from continued destruction. One of the most promising developments is the formation and rapid growth of the bipartisan House of Representatives Climate Solutions Caucus. It includes Wisconsin Congressman Mike Gallagher (R-Green Bay), who also earned 100 percent rating from the National Right to Life committee.

Dealing with scandal within the Church

To the editor:

As we hear about and discuss the serious and continuing sex scandal within the Catholic Church, let’s start by placing the blame where it belongs — squarely on the failed leadership of the hierarchy of the Catholic Church. The failure has been caused by a lack of true leadership skills and being controlled by vanity and arrogance.

Robert K. Greenleaf was an advocate for Servant Leadership, and in the worldwide history of mankind, the greatest example of a servant leader was Jesus Christ. Jesus was critical of the Pharisees stating in Matthew 23: 2-3, 5, “The scribes and the Pharisees have succeeded Moses as teachers; therefore, do everything and observe everything they tell you. But do not follow their example . . . All their works are performed to be seen.”

We are publishing it in Spanish prior to the National V Encuentro which begins September 20 in Grapevine, Texas. Three delegates from the Diocese of Madison will be attending the National Encuentro.
