Holy Communion is the most precious gift that Jesus gave us. It is the perfect expression of God’s unchanging love. The Eucharist is the real presence of Christ on all the altars throughout the world.
In 2005, Cardinal Avery Dulles wrote, “This teaching surrounding the Eucharist, remains as true and as normative today, as it did from the beginning. The Council of Trent described the real presence of Jesus with three adverbs: truly, really, and substantially.”
The Sisters of Mary Morning Star are putting on a Concert of Sacred Chant at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish on Friday, May 17, at 7 p.m.
On the morning of March 14, 2005, I was awakened with news that smoke was billowing out of the roof, spire, and bell tower of St. Raphael Cathedral in downtown Madison.
Our reporter then, Julianne Nornberg, traveled quickly to the scene of the fire, which had started at 5:31 a.m. Firefighters were on the scene at 5:39 a.m., and they worked to control the fire caused — we found out later — by an arsonist.
Unfortunately, the fire destroyed the roof of St. Raphael Cathedral, which collapsed into the church. The 150-year-old church was destroyed. A new spire, which had been raised to the top of the cathedral’s spire in 2014, was saved.
JEFFERSON — The Catholic community of St. John the Baptist (SJB) School and St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Jefferson recently gathered to participate in a fundraising event for the family of Addie Houston, a fifth grader at East Elementary School and great-niece of St. John’s principal, Bill Bare.
As news of Addie’s battle against leukemia reached the school and parish community, there were many inquiries as to how to best help and support the family.STOUGHTON — Students at St. Ann School, Stoughton, are gearing up for their April 26 and 27 drama club production of Aladdin, Jr., a show closely based on the 2014 Broadway musical and the 1992 Disney film.
The production, Aladdin, Jr., will be held at Stoughton High School Performing Arts Center, 600 Lincoln Ave., at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 26, and 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27.
The show, directed by DeeDee Bouzek, tells the story of Aladdin and his magic lamp and features Sam Ross in the title role, Ellee Milota as Princess Jasmine, and Megan Gille in the iconic role of Genie.MADISON — In thanksgiving for their faithful service, Fr. Michael Radowicz, pastor, and the parishioners of St. Bernard Parish and the Knights of Columbus invite all law enforcement and fire/EMS personnel to the third annual Blue Mass to be held on Thursday, May 9, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Bernard Church, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison.
Knights of Columbus involved include Council 9082 of St. Bernard Parish and the Bishop William P. O’Connor 4th Degree Assembly.
Participating in the Mass again this year are Madison Police Chief Mike Koval, Dane County Sheriff David Mahoney, University of Wisconsin Police Chief Kristen Roman, and City of Madison Assistant Fire Chief Michael Popovich.MADISON — St. Dennis Parish is hosting its second annual Earth Day celebration the weekend of April 27 to 28 with activities and exhibits designed to demonstrate how individuals and families can take steps to reduce their carbon footprint and conserve natural resources.
At the Earth Day event, which is open to the public, participants will be able to:
• Have their carbon footprint calculated by members of the St. Dennis Care for Creation team.
• Learn about the 66-panel solar electric system, installed in 2017 to generate electricity for Saint Dennis School.Many people think of the Vatican as the “Mother Church” of the Catholic Church, but Jeffery Abood points out that the true Mother Church is in the Holy Land.
