Cathedral bells blessed
The bells of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church in Madison will soon be ringing again. Five bells were blessed and rechristened by Bishop Donald J. Hying of Madison on January 5, for the future diocesan cathedral, and although it was bitterly cold, a small contingent of parishioners braved the day’s high of 16 degrees Fahrenheit to witness the special dedication.
Messiah, the Messiah, and the message
I am currently reading a fascinating book, Every Valley: The Desperate Lives and Troubled Times that made Handel’s Messiah by Charles King, which narrates both the complex history and the enduring legacy of one of the most popular musical masterpieces.
