The “health care reform” bill targets the unborn, very sick, and senior citizens.
Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life called it FOCA (Freedom of Choice Act) in disguise. He also said: “The ‘health care reform’ bills being finalized in Congress will set off a chain reaction that will result in a massive expansion of abortion! That’s because, unless Congress explicitly states that abortion is excluded, it will be regarded as ‘an essential benefit’ for Americans.”
JANESVILLE — Sr. Lucentia Klonecki, the pastoral minister at St. Patrick Parish in Janesville for 31 years, is retiring.
St. Patrick Parish will honor Sister Lucentia at an open house brunch to be held at St. Patrick School auditorium on Sunday, Sept. 20, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All are invited to come and visit with Sister Lucentia.
Pope Benedict XVI’s social encyclical, Caritas in Veritate (Charity in Truth), is a complex and occasionally obscure document, replete with possible implications for the future development of Catholic social doctrine.
Sorting those implications out will take much time and even more careful reflection. Along the information superhighway, however, careful reflection hit a few potholes in the early going, as sundry partisans sought to capture Caritas in Veritate as a weapon with which to bolster the Obama administration’s economic, health care, and social welfare policies.
During my years as the Vocations Director for the Diocese of Madison I’ve encountered a certain set of recurring questions from priests and laity regarding our seminarian program.
They are excellent questions that show an interest in the seminarians’ formation for priesthood. In this article, I answer six of these recurring questions. Future diocesan priests David Carrano and Greg Ihm say the last four years studying in Rome have been an exciting and enriching experience.
The two will be ordained to the transitional diaconate on October 8, 2009, at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Archbishop Robert J. Carlson of St. Louis, Mo., will ordain about 30 men from the Pontifical North American College (NAC) in Rome.
On June 25, 2010, Carrano and Ihm plan to be ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Madison by Bishop Robert C. Morlino in Madison.

The Diocese of Madison is continuing on with the Trusting in the Spirit planning and implementation process, now in its second year, with 16 of the 40 clusters having turned in their plans for the upcoming year.
BELOIT — Two traditions essential to Catholic worship were brought together at Our Lady of the Assumption (OLA) Church during the recent parish feast day, August 15, when Pastor Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl blessed newly installed Stations of the Cross.
The new stations are made of etched glass and are placed in the 14 windows of the church that surround the pews and altar. They were installed from the inside of the church by placing an etched glass pane onto the original windowpane.
Supreme court opinions at the state or federal level offer insights into how society changes its mind on key questions. Over the past 40-plus years, the rulings of the Wisconsin Supreme Court on matters related to religion show such a change — a change more favorable in its treatment of religion.
Article 1, Section 18, of the Wisconsin Constitution says the following: “The right of every person to worship Almighty God according to the dictates of conscience shall never be infringed; nor shall any person be compelled to attend, erect, or support any place of worship, or to maintain any ministry, without consent; nor shall any control of, or interference with, the rights of conscience be permitted, or any preference be given by law to any religious establishments or modes of worship; nor shall any money be drawn from the treasury for the benefit of religious societies, or religious or theological seminaries.”

WISCONSIN DELLS — From his smile to the story of persistence despite the struggles, it’s easy to see why Zachary Reetz is a champion.
In March 2007, at 14 years old, Reetz became infected with meningococcemia, a rare disease caused by a type of bacterial meningitis. He spent 161 days in the hospital and due to the infection lost both legs, all of his right hand, and a good portion of his left hand and suffered hearing loss.
But Reetz survived and became an example to others — those with and without disabilities. With prosthetic limbs, he rides a specially made bike, walks, hunts with his grandfather, goes camping, and attends school.
He was named by the Children’s Miracle Network as the 2009 Champion of Wisconsin and traveled to Walt Disney World and met President Barack Obama in March. Through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, he was able to travel to Las Vegas and ride with his favorite NASCAR driver, Jeff Gordon.
SUN PRAIRIE — For over three years, Karen Greiber asked St. Raphael the Archangel to ask God on her behalf to bring her “someone to love.”
Greiber had been a sponsor of several children with the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging (CFCA), a Catholic lay organization that sponsors children and elderly in developing countries throughout the world.
