Plenary indulgence for Fatima 100th anniversary at Durward’s Glen

BARABOO — Pope Francis has granted a plenary indulgence opportunity throughout the Fatima 100th anniversary year. There are three ways of obtaining the indulgence.

Pontifical Mass for the Feast of Candlemas to be celebrated

MADISON — On Thursday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. His Excellency Most Reverend Robert C. Morlino will celebrate Candlemas, the Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary (the Presentation of the Lord) with a Pontifical Mass at the Throne in the chapel of the Holy Name Heights, 702 S. High Point Rd., Madison.

The music will be Gregorian Chant and polyphonic motets.

There will be the traditional blessing of candles and a procession.

The rites are in the Church’s ancient, traditional form of the Roman Rite in Latin.

Blessed candles will be distributed.

Getting ready for middle school

MONONA — A walk down the hallway at Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) School in Monona doesn’t take too long — less than a minute to get from one end to the other.

Elementary school classes, up to grade four, are on one side, with the middle school classes, up to grade eight, on the other side.

While the distance is short, the journey from one side of the hallway to the other side can be a challenge for students as they become older and enter the middle school grades.

Surrogacy raises grave moral concerns, undermines dignity of procreation

Sometimes when there is infertility in marriage, couples make the decision to seek out the services of a surrogate in order to have a child.

A surrogate is a woman who agrees to be implanted with an embryo produced by in vitro fertilization (IVF) and to hand over the newborn baby to the couple upon completion of the gestation and birth.

In recent years, gestational surrogacy has become a multi-million dollar industry, attracting a broad clientele ranging from married couples to single women, gay couples to anyone else with the desire for a baby and the ability to finance the undertaking.

Small group prayer study at Cathedral Parish, Madison

MADISON — The Oremus: A Guide to Catholic Prayer small group study will take place at Cathedral Parish, Madison, in the St. Patrick Church Hall, 404 E. Main St., on Wednesdays, Feb. 8 to April 5, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The Oremus study program teaches the essentials of an effective and fruitful prayer life. Over the course of eight weeks, participants will discover how God speaks to them, even in the smallest encounters.

Following the tradition of the Catholic Church and the wisdom of the saints, they will learn how to express themselves to God in prayer, and how to hear his voice.

John Kolasinski, OP, named new Parish Administrative Services Manager

MADSON — Bishop Robert C. Morlino of Madison announces the appointment of John Kolasinski, OP, as Manager-Parish Administrative Services within the Diocese of Madison.

Kolasinski’s primary role will involve the day-to-day management of the consulting services the Office of Finance provides to member parishes, with an emphasis on financial controls, recordkeeping, and investment management.

Kolasinski has worked most recently for two parishes in the Diocese of Charleston.

Workshops for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to be held in diocese

MADISON — Several workshops are planned for those interested in being an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.

One will be held on Thursday, Jan. 26, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 401 S. Owen Dr., Madison.

Another will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Clare of Assisi Parish, St. Victor Church, 1760 14th St., Monroe.

Monona parish hosts talk on impact of anxiety on children

MONONA — Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish will host “Understanding the Impact of Anxiety on Children,” a talk by Justin Bangert, MS, LMFT, of the Center for Christian Counseling, Consultation, and Training, on Tuesday, Jan. 24, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Marian Hall, 4913 Schofield St.

Parents of children of all ages are invited to the discussion about the common and uncommon effects anxiety may have on children.

Marriage Encounter hosts square dance

STOUGHTON — Worldwide Marriage Encounter is hosting a square dance on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 6:30 in the St. Ann School gym, 323 N. Van Buren.

There will be a potluck dinner (no nuts/peanuts) and drinks followed by two hours of guided square dancing by an official square dance caller.
