Lumen House project moves forward

MADISON — Msgr. Kevin Holmes, rector of the Cathedral Parish in Madison, publicly thanked Wisconsin State legislators late in June for acting to ensure the opportunity for faith-based housing for students attending University of Wisconsin-Madison becomes a reality beginning with the 2014 to 2015 school year.

Preserving tax-exemption

In a release dated June 21, Monsignor Holmes noted the Cathedral Parish’s tremendous appreciation for “the efforts of Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester), Rep. Travis Tranel (R-Cuba City), and Rep. Pat Strachota (R-West Bend) and Senate Majority Leader, Senator Scott Fitzgerald (R-Beaver Dam) for their role in including a matter important to the Cathedral Parish in the governor’s budget bill.

New marriage preparation, pro-life coordinator hired

MADISON — Colin Jenkins has been hired as the new full-time Marriage Preparation Coordinator/Pro-Life Coordinator for the Diocese of Madison.

Jenkins will be taking over the majority of marriage preparation activities, and Andy Galvin, marriage and family coordinator for the diocese, will be shifting to marriage enrichment and an expansion of Theology of the Body opportunities in the diocese.

“He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge about marriage and family that will serve the program and the many engaged couples well,” said Galvin. “He will also be a great addition to our team as we look to expand our overall support for marriages and families in the diocese.”

Human sexuality: Considering perversions and purposes

Making Sense out of Bioethics column by Fr. Tad Pacholczyk

Many of us have probably heard single women talking among themselves about men, where one of them ends up saying, “That guy, he’s just a pervert — he’s only interested in sex.”

When women detect that a man’s focus has become the pursuit of pleasure, and that unbridled sex has become an end in itself, they tend instinctively to back away. Women often intuitively understand that sex can’t be reduced to mere pleasure without hurting both individuals involved, and negating other important goods, like love, family, children, and marriage.

St. Ann School hosts robot show

STOUGHTON — The seventh grade class of St. Ann School in Stoughton recently hosted their annual Tetrix Robotic Show.

This year’s robots featured the “Back Buddy 5000” back-scratcher, “Macklemore the Mopper 3.0” Swiffer robot, and the “Ralph x2000” spy cam robot.

While making the robots, the students studied the engineering process and were required to complete a number of assignments, including keeping a daily engineering journal and preparing a commercial to market their robot.

In addition, students created a Google Site website which highlighted the building process with photos and videos. Students were required to upload their commercials to the site and design the layout of their website.
