A young woman is frightened and alone. She has no job, no way to provide a home for her newborn baby. Fortunately, a friend told her that in Wisconsin, she can leave her baby at a hospital. Her baby will be cared for and eventually placed with a loving adoptive family.

Comments on current issues
Rather than writing an editorial on one topic this week, I am going to comment on several current matters of interest to Catholics.
Principal exemplified dedicated service
Co-workers, students, family members, and friends of Steve Bolser filled Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Madison on March 20 for his Mass of Christian Burial.
Diocese launches new Annual Catholic Appeal
In what has been called a “complete paradigm shift,” the Diocese of Madison is launching a new Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA) this year to support the ministries and services it provides in the 11-county diocese.
ACA: New letters with new meaning

Dr. Ray Guarendi urges parents to discipline children with love
Many families today seem to be out of control. All we have to do is watch the Nanny show on television to see how children often run wild in many homes.
Conscientious objection: We must continue to protect it for health care workers
Many of us are aware of the term “conscientious objector” as it applies to armed service. During the Vietnam War, for example, some men subject to the draft declared themselves conscientious objectors. They performed alternate kinds of service rather than fight as soldiers.
Farmers’ Market brings urban and rural people together
People living in cities rarely get the chance to meet the people who grow their food. That’s one reason why the Churches Center for Land and People (CCLP) has developed an opportunity to connect farmers with urban consumers.
Consider ways to observe Lent
This week we begin the 40-day season of Lent, a time in which Catholics focus our attention on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving in preparation for Holy Week and Easter.
