Spring Sing, Art Walk to be held at Beloit school

On May 12, 2016
Pat Casucci, Catholic Herald Correspondent

BELOIT — A Spring Sing and Art Walk will be presented for parents and the public on Wednesday, May 18, at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Grade School (OLA) gymnasium.

This celebration of the school’s arts programs will showcase the OLA choral groups and band, as well as students’ art projects.

All grades, from 4K to eighth, will sing choral numbers learned this past year.

“After the little children in 4K sing, each grade will sing well-known numbers from musicals,” said Adam Gracyalny, OLA music teacher.

Songs will include selections from Annie, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Les Misérables, Willy Wonka, and more.

The OLA Band, directed by instructor Jack Farina, will play several selections learned during the school year. All students have the opportunity to display their artistic talents in the art walk gallery.

Gracyalny stated, “It’s wonderful OLA School can provide arts education for all students. I believe music education is important for students as it helps them in every other aspect of life. They have the opportunity to formulate ideas about their surroundings a bit better and develop additional experiences in their education.”

OLA is one of the few schools in the diocese to offer a band program with an instructor on the school staff. Farina said the band program helps students “develop an entirely new dimension in their lives such as positive growth and creative expression.”
