MADISON — Bishop Robert C. Morlino of Madison recently presented three checks to Jackson Fonder, CEO and president of Catholic Charities Madison.

One check, totaling $185,000, was from the 2017 Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA). This money came from additional proceeds made available when the diocese reached its giving goal for the year.

The Diocese of Madison has supported Catholic Charities with more than $400,000 from last year’s ACA.

Money from St. Mother Teresa Mercy Fund

The other checks came from the Catholic Diocese of Madison Foundation’s St. Mother Teresa Mercy Endowment Fund.

The fund was designed to provide the bishop with the consistent availability of funds to care for various works of mercy, year-in and year-out.

Bishop Morlino presented one check for more than $18,000 to aid the homeless, which Catholic Charities will use for The Beacon — the day homeless resource center in Madison.

Bishop Morlino has committed a three percent annual distribution from the fund to be designated for Catholic Charities Madison in their efforts to care for the homeless over, at least, the next three years.

Another check presented from the Mercy Fund, this one for $2,500, will be used by Catholic Charities at Hope Haven in their efforts to help those struggling with addictions.

The Mercy Fund was established at the conclusion of the Year of Mercy in 2016.
