JEFFERSON — A family of faith supports each member in prayer and works of mercy, especially when one of them is suffering.

The family of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and St. John the Baptist (SJB) School in Jefferson came together to show their support and love for a member of their community who is currently fighting cancer.

School students, staff, and parishioners gathered in prayer on March 10 to offer the Rosary for this beloved family member while tying the knots on the “Blanket of Prayer” made by retired SJB teacher Sue Loof.

This heartfelt prayer service has become a special tradition as there have been several other parish members who have received prayer quilts in the same manner.

As sixth grade teacher Debbie Aumann led the participants in the Rosary, students and teachers came forward to each take their turn tying a knot on the quilt.

As they completed the quilt, individual prayers were offered from the silence of the hearts that came forward.

A very special piece of the quilt is dedicated to the recipient: “With love, from your SJB Family 2022”.

The hopes and prayers of this family of faith are that the recipient will feel the love and mercy from all who participated in the prayer service.

When all participants had finished the quilt and the Rosary had concluded, Pastor Fr. Tom Coyle blessed the special blanket of love and prayer.

The family members present expressed their gratitude and appreciation for this special work of mercy for a beloved member of their parish family.

Daily prayers continue to be offered by the St. Francis of Assisi parishioners and St. John the Baptist School community.
