Let’s celebrate the Summer Olympics!

The Games of the XXXIII Olympiad will be held in Paris this summer from late July until mid-August, but the tenth annual Linden Lodge Driveway Olympics will be held one afternoon only, at our cabin up north on Lake Mildred. It’s been almost two years since you and I took that old-age test together, and unless my memory is failing, we all passed with flying colors! We were definitely not old then, but perhaps it’s time to re-visit another version of that exam – just to make sure.

“. . . Such stuff as dreams are made of . . .”

People have always been fascinated by this thing called sleep and the dreams that come with it. If God created the human brain, He also created the way it functions. So, for thousands of years, dreams have been associated with religion and the belief that God speaks to us in our dreams.

When I grow up, I want to be . . .

It’s important for us to be educated voters in the April primary and the November general election, but when we go to the polls, let’s remember what Samuel said and always look to our divine “President” to guide us as we make choices in our politics as well as choices in every aspect of our everyday lives.

Toast for a winter wedding

Dear Readers,
I wish you could have been with me at my son’s wedding last week. The beautiful Nuptial Mass was celebrated at Holy Mother of Consolation Church in Oregon with a lovely reception afterwards down the road at a banquet hall overlooking the valley.

Since you weren’t able to be there, I thought I might at least share with you the toast I gave at the dinner; I’m fairly sure you can relate to what I was trying to say:

Reflecting on resolving

If 640 million of us succeeded in keeping resolutions designed to improve the content of our character and not just the beauty of our bodies, we just might make the world a better place in which to live.
