MADISON — Incense. Trumpets. A procession of priests and bishops. Knights of Columbus in their colorful regalia. Knights and Ladies of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre in their black and white garb.

All these elements added to the solemnity of the ordination Mass celebrated on Friday, June 25, at St. Maria Goretti Church.

Signs of great joy

But while it was a very serious occasion marked by reverence and tradition, the Mass and ordination rite were also filled with signs of great joy as Deacons David A. Carrano and Gregory S. Ihm were ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Madison.

This past December, the United States bishops published a new pastoral letter on the topic of marriage, entitled “Marriage: Love & Life in the Divine Plan.”

In the document, the bishops celebrate married life and express their conviction that marriage is especially a blessing to the couple, their families, and society overall.

MADISON — The inaugural St. Paul’s University Catholic Center Wine Tasting was an opportunity to gather together current and former students, as well as others interested in aiding and expanding Catholic campus ministry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

MADISON — Deacons are all about service, “primarily the service of mercy,” Bishop Robert C. Morlino said in his homily at the Mass on Friday, May 28, at the Bishop O’Connor Center in which Jorge Miramontes and Tim Renz were ordained as transitional deacons for the Diocese of Madison.

MADISON — In the fall of 2009, the Diocese of Madison’s Office of Evangelization and Catechesis (OEC) started the new Seat of Wisdom Diocesan Institute (SOWDI), a program of catechetical certification and adult faith formation.
