Teens attend annual Frassati Fest held in Wisconsin Dells

To the left of the main stage at Frassati Fest, there was a photo booth.

The more than 400 participants, leaders, and guests, could wear silly costume accessories, hold flags, or hold each other, and get their pictures taken for later memory and social media use.

Dorothy Day’s granddaughter visits Madison

MADISON — “If you’re admiring my grandmother, you’re not paying attention.”

Those were strong words said by the granddaughter of Dorothy Day, but perhaps true meaning one shouldn’t focus on the women herself, but the work that needs to be done, and what that means for you in your life.

Day is known for being a driving force behind the Catholic Worker Movement, which tackled issues of social justice. Day’s cause for sainthood is underway with her currently being designated as a “Servant of God”.

The Rite of Election of Catechumens and Call to Continuing Conversion for Candidates for Full Communion in the Catholic Church will be celebrated by the parishes of the Diocese of Madison on Sunday, Feb. 18, at 3 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Waunakee.

Lenten activities in 2018

Lent at Holy Name Heights

MADISON — Lenten prayer opportunities for employees, residents, and guests in the Holy Name Memorial Chapel at Holy Name Heights, 702 S. High Point Rd., include:

• Celebration of the Mass — Mass is celebrated Monday through Friday at 12 noon. There will be no Mass on Holy Thursday, March 29; Good Friday, March 30; or Easter Monday, April 2.

• Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament — The Blessed Sacrament is exposed daily, Monday through Friday, from 9 to 11:45 a.m. Adoration will not take place on Good Friday, March 30, or Easter Monday, April 2.

MADISON — Natural Family Planning (NFP) classes will be held in the Diocese of Madison.

Couple to Couple League Education Course

To complete the course and learn how to use NFP, attend all three classes in one of the following series starting:

St. Dennis sponsors 11th annual ‘Trivia Knight’

MADISON — An east-side Madison tradition continues on Saturday, March 3, when the St. Dennis Home and School Association hosts “Trivia Knight.”

So-named to reflect the St. Dennis Knights mascot, “Trivia Knight” features eight rounds of 10 questions each, plus music, food and drink, a silent and live auction, and raffle — all to benefit St. Dennis Catholic School.

NBC15 Sports Director Mike “Jocko” Jacques returns for his fourth time hosting this year’s event.

Mass commemorates death of Venerable Samuel Mazzuchelli, OP

BENTON — The annual Mass to commemorate the death of Venerable Samuel Mazzuchelli, OP, will be held at St. Patrick Church, Benton, at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25.

The Mazzuchelli Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus invite everyone to attend and join them for a social in the parish hall afterward.

Father Mazzuchelli died in the house near the church on February 23, 1864, and is buried in the parish cemetery. The house is open for tours during warm-weather months.

Saying yes to God’s will as a priest

A nearly 10-year journey has led Fr. Gabriel López-Betanzos from discernment to his role as the judicial vicar for the Diocese of Madison.

Earlier this year, he was appointed to that role by Bishop Robert C. Morlino of Madison, replacing Fr. Tait Schroeder, who will be working in the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome.

Lenten mission at St. John Vianney will feature Dr. Marcellino D’Ambrosio

JANESVILLE — As we enter into the season of Lent, many Catholics consider how to deepen their spiritual journey and go beyond simply “giving something up.”

To aid parishioners — and Catholics in the Diocese of Madison — St. John Vianney Parish in Janesville has invited Dr. Marcellino D’Ambrosio, better known as “Dr. Italy,” to come and speak for a one-night mission on Thursday, Feb. 22.

Dr. D’Ambrosio is a well-respected Catholic professor and speaker who has had several books on the New York Times best-seller list, hosted multiple TV series on EWTN, and been a frequent guest on a variety of Catholic radio shows, including Catholic Answers and The Catholic Connection.
