MONONA — On Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 6 p.m., at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Monona, His Excellency Robert C. Morlino, Bishop of Madison, will celebrate a Pontifical Mass at the Throne for the traditional Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
The Mass will be in the Roman Rite’s older, traditional form, sometimes called the “Extraordinary Form.” The music will be in Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony, with motets and hymns, including:
MIDDLETON — All are invited to participate in a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse on Thursday, Oct. 5 (Feast of St. Faustina).
The pilgrimage will leave from St. Bernard Church, 2015 Parmenter St., Middleton, loading the motorcoach at 6:45 a.m., leaving at 7 a.m. The group will leave La Crosse at 4 p.m., arriving at St. Bernard’s parking lot at approximately 6:30 p.m.
BENTON — The annual Venerable Fr. Samuel Mazzuchelli Memorial Mass and dinner will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at St. Patrick Church in Benton.
The public is invited to attend the day’s events sponsored by the Father Mazzuchelli Assembly 1202 Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus of Lancaster.

MADISON — Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Madison is excited to be opening the new Homeless Day Resource Center in Madison — named The Beacon — this October.
To be able to operate The Beacon seven days a week, 365 days a year, Catholic Charities needs to find volunteers who are able to commit to monthly or weekly shifts in a variety of positions. These include:
LORETO — All are invited to join the Tri-Parish Catholic Community of Lime Ridge, Loreto, and La Valle for a Walk to Mary on the Feast of the Assumption on Tuesday, Aug. 15, beginning at 5 p.m. at St. Patrick Church in Loreto.
Those attending will gather at St. Patrick Church and make a pilgrimage to Our Lady of the Fields Chapel. The 3.1 mile pilgrimage will begin with the first decade of the Scripture Rosary at St. Patrick Church. The last decade will be prayed on top of the hill near the chapel.
VERMONT — The annual outdoor Mass at St. James, Vermont, will be held on Sunday, Aug. 6, at 12 noon with Fr. Steve Petrica as celebrant.
A potluck dinner will follow at the Blue Mounds View Park in the village of Blue Mounds.

MADISON — “We are in a very crucial day today,” said Edgar Martinez, positively looking ahead to the start of a training session on July 7 at Holy Name Heights in Madison.
Martinez, member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Madison, is helping to lead the efforts of the Diocese of Madison’s role in “V Encuentro” — a series of meetings that will take place over the next few years aimed at getting to know Hispanics and producing more involvement in the Catholic Church of its second largest and fastest growing community.
Encuentro is a national effort on behalf of the Catholic Church in the United States to respond to the needs of Hispanic Catholics and to strengthen the ways in which Hispanics respond to the call to the New Evangelization as missionary disciples serving the entire Church.

Encuentro means “encounter” and this encuentro is the fifth such series of meetings held in the United States since the first in 1972.
According to the V Encuentro website (https://vencuentro.org), there are more than 38,000 Hispanic Catholics in the Diocese of Madison. That is about 15 percent of the total number of Catholics in the diocese.
The training session’s goal was to bring together the Hispanic ministry leaders from the 16 parishes in the Diocese of Madison that have them. The leaders included priests and laity.
Martinez said the first step in the process is “to organize everyone from the base, from the parish to the diocese and so on.”
