Blame deficit on stimulus, bail-outs, health care

To the editor:

In reference to Tony Magliano’s column (September 22 issue), the following failed to be mentioned in the reasons for our “sick” deficit: $5 trillion dollars spent on stimulus, bail-outs, and “Obamacare”.

Three U.S. wars cost us approximately $1 trillion. Military budgets are already again at dangerous lows. Regulations are grossly increased, not decreased. Banks are trying to survive congressional and government interference, their portion of stimulus money doing nothing to improve the economy.

Former Planned Parenthood worker inspires action

To the editor:

I couldn’t put Abby Johnson’s book down, unPlanned, I needed to share the following:

I quit: Abby Johnson, former director of a Planned Parenthood abortion mill in Texas, may not have said, “I quit,’’ however, her actions proved she did. Abby, an R.N., had been named as “employee of the year,’’ being valued as a committed, energetic, caring person. “Wearing many hats,” one day she was asked to help in the surgical room, where abortions were performed. Helping with an ultra-sound guided abortion, she expected to learn something. And indeed she did!

Brides of yesteryear should be applauded for modest wedding dress styles

To the editor:

I just wanted to comment on something in the Catholic Herald article “Balancing Fashion and Faith” (August 11 issue) which was regarding selecting modest wedding dresses.

As I read the article out loud to my husband, I was THRILLED to see my sentiments communicated so clearly and succinctly about the need for modest wedding dresses. I recently did an alteration to a friend’s wedding dress to accomplish her goal of having a modest wedding gown.

Father Mazzuchelli had deep impact on our state

Stop complaining and thank God for all he has given us

To the editor:

I complained that the path of my life was not always smooth, that there were difficulties and obstacles along the way that made the journey through life tough . . . Then I remembered that there are people out there who had no feet and could never even make a journey . . . and I felt ashamed!

I complained that the things that I asked for were not always given to me, that I could not be understood when I spoke, or even heard . . . Then I remembered that there are people out there who were born mute and will never be heard by anyone . . . and I felt ashamed!

Church shouldn’t compromise with Chinese government

To the editor:

Regarding the recent illicit Chinese ordination of bishops:

You can’t bargain with the devil! This should be clearly understood by Vatican officials who persist in establishing, at all costs, improved relations with Communist China.

Things you don’t hear on news

To the editor:

After listening to the bashing of the big bad Republicans at my family reunion this last weekend, I feel that I should point out the things you don’t hear on local news.

We must stand up against efforts to weaken morality

To the editor:

Earlier this year President Barack Obama instructed his Attorney General and the Justice Department not to defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which recognized marriage as between one man and one woman. This piece of legislation was overwhelmingly passed in the House and Senate and signed into law by then President Bill Clinton in 1996.

Last month the New York State legislature passed a law legalizing same-sex marriage which was immediately signed into law by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, a professed Catholic. As the push for same-sex marriage escalates in the weeks, months, and years ahead with the help of the media, Hollywood movie stars and musicians, the courts, and the intellectual elites of our country, with the blessing of many so-called Catholic and other Christian politicians, I wonder as we celebrate our “independence” as a country what God thinks of this nation as it continues its moral decay.
