What makes Catholic education such a ‘gift’

To the editor:

Before Catholic Schools Week, we, the eighth graders, and the seventh graders were asked to reflect on what makes Catholic education such a “gift”.  We at St. John the Baptist Catholic School believe:

• Our school is like a family where everyone cares about each other.

Continue to make voices heard for unborn babies

To the editor:

Thanks to the Catholic Herald team for your outstanding coverage of the annual pro-life marches in Madison, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. Our family was pleased to join hundreds of others from the diocese in participating in these important events, providing a countercultural voice on behalf of the most defenseless in our society. Special thanks to Diocese of Madison for their leadership in making our local march a success!

Abortion is the leading cause of death worldwide in 2018

To the editor:

The Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children is observed on January 22. How appropriate, as on this day 46 years ago, our Supreme Court justices passed Roe v. Wade.

At a National Prayer Breakfast attended by President Bill and Hillary Clinton, Mother Teresa said: “What is taking place in America is a war against the child. If we accept that the mother can kill her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?”

Bishop Morlino’s tribute section in paper speaks beautifully to a life well-lived

To the editor:

The December 6 issue of the Catholic Herald had tough competition from tree trimming, gift wrapping, and Christmas cards.

But I welcomed a “sit-down” to read the special “In Memoriam” section about Bishop Robert C. Morlino in the Herald. It speaks beautifully to a life well-lived.

Urge Congress to take action on climate change

To the editor:

The most recent National Climate Assessment found that “People who are already vulnerable, including lower-income and other marginalized communities, have lower capacity to prepare for and cope with extreme weather and climate-related events and are expected to experience greater impacts.”

Prepare for the second coming of Jesus

To the editor:

What does the Bible tell us are the four spirits which will be governing the hearts of men at the second coming of Jesus Christ? Zechariah 6:1-5 provides an account of four chariots pulled by red, black, white, and pale green horses. Revelation 6:1-17 provides a similar account.

If we look at these colors as “isms,” what would they be? Let’s take red first. Do you know an “ism” depicted as red? Sure, communism; Red Russia,  China, Korea, Cuba, Vietnam; very active in our lifetimes.

Americans must remember our founding beliefs

To the editor:

Thank you for your editorial, “We’re better than this!” in the November 1 Catholic Herald. The vision that all men are created equal anchors our respect for each other and inspires our behavior toward each other.

This belief moved our country’s founders to break away from the British Empire, to declare independence, and begin the process of developing a workable self-governing system. Neighboring Canada, for instance, did not have such an inspiration and remained a part of the British empire for decades.

The real truth is to keep your focus on Jesus

To the editor:

As we deal with the horrors of the shootings over this past weekend, the result of which will certainly be the demand to rid ourselves of firearms, I would like to focus on the real truth, which is, the prince of this world is Satan (Job 1:7, 1 Peter 5:8, Rev 12:9). We are dealing with the agents of Satan and the people under his influence. He will not be restrained until Jesus returns (Rev 19:11-20:3).

Appreciates coverage of St. Dennis Church renovation

To the editor:

Thank you for your feature on St. Dennis Church’s new altar, tabernacle, and renovation.

St. Dennis Parish is a welcoming faith community, but we feel these additions make it an even stronger Catholic one.
