Our Lady Queen of Peace students immerse themselves in faith-filled service

MADISON — So, what do you think most teenagers do during the summer? Sleep in? Head to the beach? Hang out with friends?

But summer is also a time to serve: to be the “light of Christ” in the world and to be “Sent Forth by the Spirit.”

Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in Madison has students that serve all year long: as ushers, altar servers, cantors, leaders of the Children’s Liturgy of the Word, etc.

After-school Code Club offers springboard to the future for Beloit students

BELOIT — It’s music to Adam Gracyalny’s ears even though songbooks and choral singing are replaced by Chromebooks and lively conversation in the music room at Our Lady of the Assumption (OLA) Grade School.

Gracyalny, who is the OLA music teacher, changes hats to conduct Code Club meetings. About 40 students in kindergarten through eighth grade are learning how to write code, how to create simple objects with 3D printing, and how basic concepts can empower them to do many things with a computer.

High school ministry goes beyond Confirmation

VERONA — Now in its second year, the High School Ministry program at St. Christopher Parish in Verona is striving to be a community where all teens can be heard, feel like they belong, and form authentic friendships through discussions, prayer, study, and social activities.

The program is a separate entity from the parish’s Confirmation program for teens, who are confirmed in the fall of their 10th grade year.

For Youth Ministry and Confirmation Coordinator Doug Ulaszek, High School Ministry is about the teens “being formed beyond Confirmation” and striving to “change the mentality” from teens being done with their faith formation following the Sacrament of Confirmation.
