MADISON — The Catholic Multicultural Center of Madison (CMC) has secured a long-term lease with the Diocese of Madison, further helping to secure its future.
The CMC signed an eight-year lease that will allow it to provide its services at the same location it has been at since 1952.
“The lease not only helps secure the future of the center but also shows that the diocese supports the work of the center and wants it to continue,” said CMC Director Andrew Russell. “The lease will also allow us to enter into secure long term partnerships with other groups.”
The Diocese of Madison has also donated $150,000 since the center reopened. Additionally the rent is $1 a year, which allows funds to be focused on programs serving people in need.
The center, now under the leadership of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, closed in May due to diocesan-wide budget concerns, then reopened in August after a groundswell of community support and the offer of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish to oversee the center.
The CMC was established in 1946 and continues to help meet people’s basic needs, provide educational opportunities, and fill spiritual needs for those interested. A free meal program, food pantry, health program, numerous educational classes, and shower and laundry facilities are a few of the services that are available.
