Preparation for Divine Mercy Sunday

On March 24, 2011August 28, 2024
--

MERRIMAC/SAUK CITY — Divine Mercy Parish (St. Aloysius Church, Sauk City) and St. Mary Parish in Merrimac will begin a 40 day preparation for Divine Mercy Sunday on Wednesday, March 23.

Remember these words of Jesus to Saint Faustina: “I desire that the Feast of Mercy (Divine Mercy Sunday) be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. Tell aching mankind to snuggle close to My merciful Heart, and I will fill it with peace.”

Preparing for feast day

Starting Wednesday, March 23, people are invited to prepare for this special feast day by praying for the outpouring of Divine Mercy on families, the state, and our country. For 40 days, people will reflect on God’s greatest attribute using the Drawing Down Divine Mercy prayer and meditation book.

This book is a perfect daily meditation for the Lenten Season and provides a complete presentation on the richness of the Divine Mercy devotion. Copies of Drawing Down Divine Mercy can be purchased for $15 at the Divine Mercy Parish office by calling 608-643-2449 or by visiting www.familyland.org and clicking on the “Drawing Down Divine Mercy” link for free resources including the book, video, and audio items.

Opportunities for reflection, learning available

Opportunities for further reflection and learning are available at Divine Mercy Parish. Fr. Pedro Escribano will discuss the meditations during his spiritual talks after the 10 a.m. Mass on Sundays, March 27, April 4, and April 11, at St. Mary Church, 231 Main St., Merrimac.

Teresa Evans will facilitate a discussion of the book and DVD on Monday evenings, March 21, March 28, April 4, and April 11, from 7 to 8 p.m., at the St. Aloysius School gym, 608 Oak St., Sauk City.

In addition, the Divine Mercy Novena and Chaplet will be led by Ann Black in the Divine Mercy Chapel at St. Aloysius Church, 115 Madison St., Sauk City. These nine days of prayer in preparation for Divine Mercy Sunday will be offered beginning on Good Friday, April 22, through Saturday, April 30, at 3 p.m.

Join in these 40 days of prayer to celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday at St. Aloysius Church on Sunday, May 1, beginning at 1 p.m. The afternoon will be filled with private prayer, Confession, Eucharistic Adoration, veneration of the Divine Mercy image, and the holy sacrifice of the Mass at 4:30 p.m.

Childcare and assisted listening devices will be available. See and experience God’s mercy in these challenging times. Contact Kevin Blau at [email protected] or Ann Cicero 608-643-2449 for more information.
