SUN PRAIRIE — A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 2420 St. Albert Dr. in Sun Prairie, for Msgr. Douglas L. Dushack, 73, who died on Friday, March 15, 2019, at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg.

Msgr. James Bartylla, diocesan administrator, presided at the Mass with Msgr. Donn Heiar as homilist. Burial was in Sacred Hearts Cemetery, Sun Prairie.

Monsignor Dushack was born in Madison on December 21, 1945, to Edith (Smyth) and Glen Dushack. After attending Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Grade School in Sun Prairie, he continued his high school education at Sun Prairie Public High School.

He started his collegiate studies at Queen of Apostles Seminary, Madison, and continued at Holy Name Seminary, Madison, finishing with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy at St. Francis Major Seminary, St. Francis. He studies theology there and was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Cletus F. O’Donnell on May 12, 1972, at St. Raphael Cathedral, Madison.

He served the diocese as a parochial vicar at the following parishes: Sacred Heart Parish, Reedsburg; St. Raphael Cathedral, Madison; St. Henry, Watertown; and St. Stanislaus, Berlin. He was parochial administrator of St. Joseph, Berlin, and St. Thomas Aquinas, Madison.

He was pastor of St. Michael, Berlin; St. James, Madison; and St. Bernard, Middleton, from which he retired in 2015.

He served as a chaplain to the Madison Serra Club; liaison with diocesan charismatic groups; member of the Conciliation and Arbitration Board, Presbyteral Council, and Priest Personnel Board; and vicar for priests.

He is survived by his brothers Richard (Dorothy), James, and Dennis; sisters Ruth (Orville) Frank, Judy Volkmann, Linda Gladem, and Donna (Dan) Wells; brother-in-law Ernest Johnson and sisters-in-law, Janet and JoAnn Dushack.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother Donald; sister Shirley Johnson; brothers Gary and David; sisters-in-law Linda, Agnes, and Brenda Dushack; and brothers in-law, David Gladem and Russ Volkmann.

Memorials may be made to the Diocese of Madison St. Raphael Clergy Retirement Fund.
