Edgewood College commits to in-person, on-campus classes for Fall 2021

MADISON — Edgewood College has committed to a return to classes on-campus and in-person when the 2021-22 academic year gets underway.

President Andrew Manion made the announcement at a recent faculty meeting.

“Our students expect to engage with our outstanding faculty and with one another — both in and out of the classroom — and they expect to do that in-person, in one of the best college towns in America — Madison,” President Manion said.

“That means we are committed to teaching and learning in classrooms, and in-person, this fall.”

The college is taking steps to make that happen, including the formation of a fall 2021 task force, similar in scope to the group that was convened in the spring of last year, in anticipation of the current academic year.

The college has held classes on-campus and remotely since August 2020, enabling both students and faculty to have the option of attending class in-person, or remote.

“I have asked (the new task force) not to return us to ‘normal,’ but have charged my colleagues with a return to better, applying all the lessons we continue to learn through this experience,” Manion said.

“Above all, we will follow the direction of Public Health Madison & Dane County, as we have for much of the past year. This community remains an important example of how adhering to protocols established by PHMDC can be successful — even in the face of great challenge.”

Incoming freshmen are scheduled to move into the residence halls on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2021.

Classes for the fall semester are scheduled to begin Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2021.

“We are very much looking forward to seeing everyone in-person at that time,” Manion added.
