Fr. Francis Joseph Dominic dies

CUBA CITY — Fr. Francis Joseph Dominic died on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the age of 88, at Epione Pavillion (nursing home) in Cuba City.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph Church, 780 Cty. Hwy. Z, Hazel Green (Sinsinawa), on Wednesday, March 12. Bishop Robert C. Morlino of Madison was the main celebrant with Fr. Randy Timmerman as homilist.

Interment was at St. Joseph Parish Cemetery with the Rite of Committal presided by Fr. Kenneth Frisch, pastor of St. Joseph Parish.

A funeral luncheon will follow the Mass.Father Dominic was born on February 1,1926, in Philadelphia, Pa.

His parents, Fiore and Genevieve (Barci) Dominic, preceded him in death.

After attending Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish Grade School in Philadelphia, Father Dominic attended Southeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia and St. Norbert High School in De Pere, Wis.

During his five-year period as a Norbertine Canon as a napproved a miracle attributed to the intercession of the Archbishop Sheenovice and professed member in temporary vows, Father Dominic completed a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy degree and one year of theological studies at St. Norbert College in De Pere. Subsequently, for the Diocese of Madison, Father Dominic completed his theological studies at St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee.

He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop William P. O’Connor on May 31, 1952, at St. Raphael Cathedral, Madison.

Father Dominic served the Diocese of Madison as a parochial vicar (associate pastor) at St. Bernard Parish, Madison, and St. Rose of Lima Parish, Cuba City. He also served as parochial administrator of St. Rose of Lima Parish, Cuba City.

He served as pastor of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Seymour; St. Peter Parish, Elk Grove; St. Mary Help of Christians, Glen Haven; St. Joseph Parish, Gratiot; St. John Parish, South Wayne; St. Joseph Parish, Sinsinawa; and St. Patrick Parish, Benton, from which he retired from on June 28, 1995.

Father Dominic was a musician, vocalist, and composer, playing violin in the Sinsinawa Strings Orchestra, singing in the Sinsinawa Civic Chorus, and having some of his compositions performed in public.

His brother George, and his sisters, Rita Powell and Carmel Dominica, preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister-in-law Rose Dominic.
