New name for Janesville hospital

On October 1, 2008November 3, 2023
--

JANESVILLE — SSM Health Care of Wisconsin announces that the new Janesville hospital to open in 2010 will be named St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital.

“We’ve heard from many area citizens about how happy they are to soon have a new hospital,” said Mary C. Starmann-Harrison, regional president/chief executive officer for SSMHC/WI. “And the support from Janesville area citizens has been heartwarming.”

“The Dean/St. Mary’s partnership has served southern Wisconsin families for nearly 100 years. Now Janesville area citizens will have that same level of teamwork closer to home,” said Craig E. Samitt, MD, president/chief executive officer for Dean Health System.

Dean Health System and SSM Health Care of Wisconsin also announced today that Erdman, a Cogdell Spencer Company, in a joint venture with Shepley Bulfinch of Boston and J.P. Cullen & Sons, Inc. of Janesville, has been chosen to design and construct its new $140 million hospital and physician office campus in Janesville.

The Erdman Company, a health care design-build firm headquartered in Madison, is one of the nation’s leading providers of health care facilities. Shepley Bulfinch is internationally recognized for innovative hospital and health care design excellence. J.P. Cullen & Sons, Inc. is a privately owned construction company based in Janesville employing over 450 people in the area, with approximately 200 of those employees residing in Rock County.

“We are so pleased with the combination of talent on this team,” said Starmann-Harrison.

“We made a promise in April to bring Janesville area residents a local health care choice,” said Samitt. “Today’s announcements bring us closer to making that choice a reality.”

The 50-acre site on Janesville’s southeast side will be home to the new 50-bed hospital and the physician office complex. Currently 50,000 patients are served by Dean in the Janesville area, including 20,000 Dean Health Plan members.

For more information on the project, or to leave comments and suggestions, visit the new hospital’s Web site at: www.stmarysjanesville.com.

Dean Health System is a multi-physician specialty health care delivery system based in Madison, serving south-central Wisconsin. The Dean organization and the St. Mary’s Dean Venture physicians, includes approximately 500 physicians providing primary, specialty, and tertiary care at almost 60 locations throughout southern Wisconsin, including the Riverview, Northview, Milton, and Delavan Clinics.

SSM Health Care of Wisconsin (SSMHC/WI) owns and operates two hospitals and two nursing homes in Wisconsin. In addition to St. Mary’s Hospital (Madison) and St. Clare Hospital (Baraboo) and their nursing homes, SSMHC/WI affiliated hospitals include Columbus Community Hospital, Stoughton Hospital, Boscobel Area Health Care, and Upland Hills Health (Dodgeville). SSMHC/WI is part of St. Louis-based SSM Health Care, the nation’s first health care organization awarded the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.
