Sun Prairie parish to hold Kerygma Camp

On July 12, 2023July 10, 2023
Molly Schoepp, For the Catholic Herald

SUN PRAIRIE — St. Albert the Great Parish in Sun Prairie has hosted Vacation Bible School in the summer for many years.

This year, it wanted to try something different and offer a camp for younger children as well.
In August, it will be hosting its first-ever Kerygma Camp.

The camp will be held from Monday, Aug. 7, to Thursday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Albert the Great Parish, 2420 St. Albert the Great Dr., Sun Prairie.

Kids entering first to sixth grade this fall are invited to come and learn about the Kerygma (the story of salvation), the liturgy, and the Sacraments.

Each day will consist of age-appropriate workshops inspired by the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and, for the older kids, learning how to serve, sacristan, and be in choir.

On the last day of Kerygma Camp, the kids will join their families to celebrate Mass.

Ashley Puza, the youth minister at St. Albert the Great and organizer of the event, hopes it can be an annual event to help renew the children in the kerygma before religious education starts.

“I also want this to be a chance for the kids to meet priests and Religious Sisters. I want them to see how joyful and beautiful a life of celibacy can be. We also hope to have teens help chaperone for the day,” she said.

The parish is excited to be offering this new program for youth, and it will be providing resources for parents to take home to help reinforce all the beautiful things the kids will be learning about at camp.
Registration for Kerygma Camp ends Tuesday, Aug. 1, with limited spots.

The $40 registration fee will be waived for those children whose parent is a volunteer.

Consider signing up your children for this beautiful opportunity to learn more about our Catholic faith, and consider volunteering for the event yourself.

More information and registration can be found at: saintalberts.org/kerygma-camp or by emailing Ashley Puza at [email protected]
