Making a positive impact: St. John Bosco tuition grants

On September 11, 2024September 9, 2024
Grant McGurn

The Catholic Diocese of Madison Foundation (CDMF) is fortunate to oversee investment funds started by individuals keenly interested in making a positive impact on our Catholic community.

One of these funds is the St. John Bosco Fund Tuition Assistance Fund, which provides grants for tuition assistance for our Catholic schools.

The CDMF recently granted nearly $30,000 in support from the St. John Bosco fund to 14 Catholic schools across the diocese to help them provide tuition assistance to students in need.

The positive impact of these grants is well-received by students and their schools and the thank you notes we receive are always very encouraging and uplifting.

One such example is Principal Trevor Seivert at Our Lady of the Assumption School in Beloit who said, “Thank you to you along with the entire team at the CDMF for helping out children with this assistance! This will help students who certainly need it!”

The CDMF Grant Review Committee uses specific criteria based on data provided by the superintendent of Catholic Schools to determine which schools could benefit the most from these grants.

Some schools have a higher number of students who apply for tuition assistance or aid, and these statistics along with other determinants allow for the Grant Review Committee to make the most of the money available to be granted.

Upon receiving notice of a grant to St. Maria Goretti School in Madison Principal Bob Schell said: “Thank you so much for the great news! Made my DAY!!!” These sorts of reactions are the bread and butter of what we strive for at the CDMF. We want to be able to help our Catholic community in the Diocese of Madison as much as possible with the assistance we have available.

The beauty of funds such as the St. John Bosco Tuition Assistance Fund is that they were started by individuals motivated to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

This sort of generosity is what allows for a true spirit of charity to flourish in our diocese.

Part of the beauty of these funds is that the donors have chosen to freely give to others, expecting nothing in return other than the hope of enriching the lives of others in need.

The Book of Proverbs says: “Some give freely, yet grow all the richer; others withhold what is due, and only suffer want. A generous person will be enriched, and one who gives water will get water.” (Proverbs 11:24-25).

It is clear that God is calling all of us to give so that our souls will be nourished.

The minimum amount required by the CDMF to start an endowed fund is $25,000.

If you or your family have the means to do so and would like to create a permanent gift of generosity here in the Diocese of Madison, we would love to speak with you.

For others, perhaps you feel God inspiring you to give even a small amount to an already existing fund which serves a worthy cause.

I would encourage you to visit our website at
diocesemadisonfoundation.org to see the list of funds we have.

The opportunity to give helps us all answer the call of our mission as Christians.

You are welcome to reach out to us anytime at 608- 821-3048 or [email protected]

We believe every financial gift is a grace-filled opportunity from God and it would be our privilege to help you fulfill your philanthropic goals.
