Rosary March to be held May 3 in Madison

On April 30, 2015
Cathy Lins, For the Catholic Herald

MADISON — The 77th Semi-Annual International Rosary March and May Crowning will be held on Sunday, May 3, at 2 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 120 W. Johnson St.

A 15-decade Rosary will be prayed in procession around the block and inside the church. The Rosary procession will be followed by the presentation of a May crown and flowers to Our Lady, a homily by Fr. Ivan Strmecki, OFM (Sacred Heart Croation Parish in Milwaukee), and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

Rosary Marches have been held in downtown Madison since 1977. The marches are held in the afternoon of the first Sundays of May and October.

According to Joe Ptak, the march was initially held at St Raphael Cathedral in Madison and the block surrounding it. Msgr. Raymond Klaas, former rector of the cathedral and vicar general of the Diocese of Madison, started the march, leading the Rosary and presenting the homily.

Holy Redeemer is located just off State St. Johnson St. and Gorham St. are the two arterial streets carrying traffic through the isthmus. The Holy Redeemer parking lot can be entered from either Johnson or Gorham. If eastbound on Johnson, turn into the driveway just before the old parish school (a half block after crossing State St.); if westbound on Gorham, turn into the parking lot 1.5 blocks after passing the Capitol at Wisconsin Ave.

In case of inclement weather, the march will be inside of the church.

Bring your Rosary beads and join in Adoration, celebration, and prayer.
