St. Ambrose Academy performs The Sound of Music

On March 17, 2016
Gwendolyn Loop, St. Ambrose Academy Junior

MADISON — This spring, St. Ambrose Academy students will bring Roger and Hammerstein’s beloved classic, The Sound of Music, to life.

Performances will be held April 8 to 10 at the Verona High School Performing Arts Center, 300 Richard St.

Based on real life, the musical tells the story of Maria (played by Maria Marsland), a young postulant who is sent to be a governess for the seven mischievous children of Captain von Trapp (played by Ben Galvin).

Maria wins the hearts of the children and the Captain as she discovers God’s will for her, the “life she was born to live.” As Anschluss approaches, the von Trapp family must choose freedom or security.

Principal actors include Shannon Seitz as the inspiring Mother Abbess, Sadie O’Leary as the stunning baroness, Justin Hineline as the irrepressible Max Detweiler, and Sam Galvin as Rolf.

The von Trapp children will be played by Natalie Davies as Liesl, John Marsland as Friedrich, Therese Klingele as Louisa, Andrew Galvin as Kurt, Grace Tejeda as Brigitta, Felicity Klingele as Marta, and Therese Leone as Gretl.

With last year’s musical winning seven Tommy nominations, the production team of Angela Hineline (director), Dani Binzak (music director), and Diane Marsland (producer), is looking forward to another great show this year. Students Jaimee Prado and Kate Krebs are leaders of the stage crew.

Much of the St. Ambrose Academy student body is involved in the musical, onstage or behind the scenes. Numerous parents and volunteers have also helped to make the show possible.
