SINSINAWA — Sr. Kathryn Welch, OP, died June 4, 2015, at St. Dominic Villa. Her religious name was Sr. Peter Thomas. The funeral Mass was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa June 9, 2015, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Kathryn made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican Aug. 5, 1955, and her final profession Aug. 5, 1958. She taught for 39 years in Minnesota, Illinois, and Iowa, and served in the Diocese of Madison in the motherhouse mailroom from 1995 to 2012.
Sister Kathryn was born May 19, 1935, in Oshkosh, the daughter of Peter and Ibelle (Russell) Welch. Her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by a sister, Martha Hildebrand; four brothers, James Welch, Peter Welch, Timothy Welch and Daniel Welch; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 59 years.
