SINSINAWA, Wis. — Sr. Marie Amanda Allard, OP, died October 7, 2018, at St. Dominic Villa. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, Oct. 12, 2018, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.

Sister Marie Amanda made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1947, and her final profession August 5, 1950. She taught for 10 years and served as principal for 11 years. Sister Marie Amanda was elected Prioress of the Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation for two terms, serving 1967 to 1977. She led the Congregation through the changes of Vatican II. As she once said about those years of change: “We were trying to find our way, taking our Dominican way of life and translating it into what it should become in the post-Vatican II era. It was a challenge!” Sister Marie Amanda ministered in diocesan ministries, including director of education, director of the permanent diaconate program and director of lay ministry formation, totaling 19 years. She served in Illinois, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Minnesota, Texas, and Oklahoma.

In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Marie Amanda taught at St. Clara Academy and the Dominican novitiate, both Sinsinawa, 1956. She served as Prioress of the Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation for two terms, 1967-1977.

Sister Marie Amanda was born February 11, 1927, in Kewanee, Ill., the daughter of John M. and Amanda (Matthys) Allard. Her parents and a brother, John W. Allard, preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces, nephews, and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 71 years of religious life.
