Plan 40 Days for Life Fall Campaign

MADISON — It’s time to start planning for the 40 Days for Life 2014 Fall Campaign.

“Vigil for Life is pleased to report that since last year’s 40 Days for Life prayer vigil campaign, God has blessed us with many graces by changing hearts and minds and by saving lives,” said Gwen Finnegan, director of Vigil for Life-Madison.

“Through our daily peaceful and prayerful presence and with God’s grace, we have been able to send many women over to the Women’s Care Center, where they are given the support needed to choose life for their baby. We are seeing the fruits of our labor due to sacrifice and God’s guiding hand.

Sidewalk counselors perform ‘God’s mission’

MADISON — Every Friday afternoon, Jen Dunnett stands on the sidewalk outside the Planned Parenthood Clinic in Madison talking to those who will listen, and those who won’t.

On one recent Friday, someone listened.

Dunnett is a volunteer sidewalk counselor with Vigil for Life, an organization whose members pray, fast, and peacefully witness for an end to abortion in the Madison area.

She hands out informational brochures on abortion and birth control, informs people about free services offered at the nearby Women’s Care Center of Madison (WCCM), and talks with women and men about to go inside the Planned Parenthood Clinic.

If I can do it, anyone can do it

For several weeks now, I have been reporting on various aspects of Vigil for Life and the now ongoing 40 Days for Life vigil to end abortion.

So often when I attend various events to write about them, I ask myself if I’m really doing enough. Does my job as reporter for the Catholic Herald give me a “free pass” from getting more involved in the efforts I write about? Is just telling people about it enough?

If I was going to try to convince other people to pray at 40 Days for Life, shouldn’t I do the same? I did, and so can you.

40 Days for Life holds vigil for abortion victims

MADISON – On Saturday, Sept. 14, groups of pro-life Americans participated in a National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children to honor the gravesites of the unborn who were victims of abortion.

Nationwide memorial services

The Day of Remembrance was conducted at 39 different gravesites across the nation, and was held on September 14 to mark the 25th anniversary of the burial of several hundred children in Milwaukee.

Former members of Diocesan Choir will return for special performance on May 3

MADISON — In celebrating 40 years of music ministry, the Madison Diocesan Choir will present a free spring concert like no other at the Bishop O’Connor Catholic Pastoral Center on Friday, May 3.

The evening concert will include former members in performing favorite, heartfelt hymns of the past, as well as relatively new songs of praise.

Choir will swell to over 100 voices

The choir has more than 70 active members representing parishes throughout the diocese. On this festive occasion, however, its numbers will swell to more than 100 as the former members, some of them founding members, join in singing sacred music, including signature pieces the choir has sung from its beginning.

For Dr. Patrick Gorman, now in his 21st year as director, the biggest challenge may be finding space for them all in the O’Connor Center chapel. Assistant Director Glenn Schuster will accompany the anniversary choir in the concert, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of the center, located at 702 S. High Point Rd.

Roe vs. Wade challenges us to protect the unborn

In 1925 Dorothy Day became pregnant. Because of a previous abortion, her pregnancy seemed a miracle. Now she had to make the toughest decision she ever made. If she gave birth, Forster Batterham, the child’s father, would probably leave her. He would stay with her if she aborted their baby.

On March 4, 1926, Dorothy gave birth to Tamar Teresa. She had her baptized and raised her as a Catholic. Later, Dorothy Day became a Catholic. Her decision caused her to lose the man she loved. But she gained salvation for herself and Tamara.
