COVID-19 is much more lethal than influenza; we should choose to protect life and health

To the editor:

A recent letter writer to this newspaper (04/30/20) asked the question, “Do we think that COVID-19 virus is going away soon?” And though I agree with him that it is not, I do disagree with his view that we should have been more concerned about the economy.

Witnesses for life give women a real choice

Editor's View by Mary C. Uhler

Each week, I receive reports from Madison’s Vigil for Life about the efforts of witnesses for life who stand and pray on the sidewalk outside of the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic at 3706 Orin Rd. in Madison.

It should be noted that the Women’s Care Center is located right across the street from the Planned Parenthood clinic. Women’s Care Center provides free, confidential counseling, support, and education to women facing unplanned pregnancies.

Respect Life Team invites people to view movie Unplanned at Madison parish

To the editor:

As Catholics, we understand our Church has long been a voice for the voiceless — especially innocent unborn babies. Yet many view pro-life work as “too controversial” or simply uncomfortable.

I understand. Abortion should make us all uncomfortable because of what it does to women, babies, and all involved in the act, including those who work inside the abortion clinics.

What about mourning lives lost by abortion?

News media reported that world leaders — including Muslim and Jewish statesmen — linked arms on January 11 to lead more than a million French citizens through Paris in an unprecedented march to pay tribute to victims of Islamist militant attacks.

Commentators said the last time crowds of this size filled the streets of the capital was at the liberation of Paris from Nazi Germany in 1944.

While we mourn the tragic deaths  in Paris — including the journalists and police who were killed there — I also find it ironic that over one billion unborn children have been killed in the world since 1980 and over 57 million unborn children have died in the United States by abortion since 1973.

Do we have a tremendous outcry about these lives lost? Do we mourn the deaths of these unborn babies?

Decide to do what you can to defend unborn babies

To the editor:

Many anniversaries are celebrations for happy events. Not so, January 22, 2014 (the 41st anniversary of the legalization of abortion in the U.S.)!  Why not? Because as a friend said, “Not even one abortion per week is acceptable. Not one per month. Not one per year. Not one in our lifetime        . . . The dignity of the human person begins at the moment of conception, not at birth.”

Irena Sendler’s father said, “If you see a man drowning, you must save him, even if you cannot swim.”  The good news is that 87 abortion clinics were closed in 2013 due to people’s prayers and witness. Thank you, if you participated.

Abortion is THE issue; over 50 million lives lost

To the editor:

FINALLY, there is a writer in the Catholic Herald who is angry about legal abortion. After 40 years of hearing so little from priests on the subject, and reading mostly about the acceptance of what we cannot change, one writer in the last issue — George Weigel — seems to be upset.

I didn’t really understand the title “On really not getting it” but it must have made me curious. We’re at the point of taking lives in abortion clinics in filthy conditions, and even killing the children after they have been born and in circumstances where the sex of the baby is not what the parents want and without any affiliation with a doctor or a hospital and on the tax payers’ dime.

Right of conscience not protected in health care act

To the editor:

The Affordable Care Act, funded by half the Medicare budget, offers free condoms, free birth control, and free abortion for all ages. The right of conscience is not protected as it was before the legislation.

Medicare defunding will not be felt until after 2012. The Independent Advisory Board of 15 appointed by our president makes all decisions about who gets what and at what age without input from seniors or politicians. The board is also delegated to defund Medicare by another $200 billion in the next decade.
