Film showing on Oct. 23 in Boscobel provides ‘inside look’ at abortion providers

To the editor:

One million dollars a day in taxpayer funding! This is the amount that Planned Parenthood receives from the federal coffers. One million dollars a day! The net worth of this “non-profit” organization is reported to be $9.8 million; its CEO’s salary: $248,819!

It is Wisconsin’s largest abortion chain . . . and it is now under federal investigation. Thanks to a recently released 30-page analysis exposing Planned Parenthood’s misuse of federal funds, failure to report child sex abuse, willful disregard for state laws regulating abortion, and a number of other scandalous activities, the House Committee on Oversight and Investigation is calling for an accounting.

Human beings are not commodities

Eye on the Capitol by John Huebscher

The cornerstone of Catholic social teaching is that human life is sacred. As such the Catholic Conference evaluates any law, policy, or program in terms of its impact on the life and dignity of the human person.

Teaching on the economy

Catholic teaching on the economy reflects this emphasis on the human person. Pope John Paul II put it quite directly in his 1981 encyclical letter, Laborem exercens. He recalled that the error of early capitalism can be repeated wherever humans are treated as mere instruments or means of production and not as ends in themselves.

Former Planned Parenthood worker inspires action

To the editor:

I couldn’t put Abby Johnson’s book down, unPlanned, I needed to share the following:

I quit: Abby Johnson, former director of a Planned Parenthood abortion mill in Texas, may not have said, “I quit,’’ however, her actions proved she did. Abby, an R.N., had been named as “employee of the year,’’ being valued as a committed, energetic, caring person. “Wearing many hats,” one day she was asked to help in the surgical room, where abortions were performed. Helping with an ultra-sound guided abortion, she expected to learn something. And indeed she did!

What happened to freedom of religion?

Is pregnancy a disease? Should Catholics, purchasing insurance for themselves or their employees be forced against their consciences to subsidize its prevention?

These questions lie at the heart of new regulations just issued by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which will administer President Barack Obama’s new health care law.

Ethics of reproductive health care

The regulations include a list of “preventive services” that all group health plans must provide without any co-pay. The list includes female surgical sterilization, plus all FDA-approved contraceptives, including some (like the prescription drug ella) that can act as abortifacients.

We must stand up against efforts to weaken morality

To the editor:

Earlier this year President Barack Obama instructed his Attorney General and the Justice Department not to defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which recognized marriage as between one man and one woman. This piece of legislation was overwhelmingly passed in the House and Senate and signed into law by then President Bill Clinton in 1996.

Last month the New York State legislature passed a law legalizing same-sex marriage which was immediately signed into law by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, a professed Catholic. As the push for same-sex marriage escalates in the weeks, months, and years ahead with the help of the media, Hollywood movie stars and musicians, the courts, and the intellectual elites of our country, with the blessing of many so-called Catholic and other Christian politicians, I wonder as we celebrate our “independence” as a country what God thinks of this nation as it continues its moral decay.
