‘Mass mob’ planned on Palm Sunday

PRINCETON — You’ve heard of flash mobs? Behold! St. John the Baptist Parish is organizing a Mass mob. It will take place on March 29, Palm Sunday, at the 10:30 a.m. Mass.

A special effort is being made to invite through letters, email, Facebook, and Twitter those who have not been attending Mass on a frequent basis.

Jefferson Catholic school goes green

JEFFERSON — The fourth grade class at St. John the Baptist School (SJB) in Jefferson has spearheaded a campaign to promote environmental awareness.

The fourth graders, who have been collecting classroom trash each day for the last few years, were upset by the amount of garbage in classroom trash cans each day. They also observed the large number of items that should have been recycled instead of tossed into the trash.

The students decided to take action.

Peace project at St. John the Baptist School in Jefferson

JEFFERSON — “Let Peace Begin With Me” is a song with a powerful message of personal responsibility in planting and nurturing the seeds of peace in one’s own world.

The fifth and sixth grade classes at St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Jefferson, under the guidance of school counselor, Mrs. Joanna Becker, embraced the idea of working towards world peace by bringing it closer to home.

Sadako’s story

Mrs. Becker introduced the “Peace Project” by sharing the true story of a young Japanese girl, Sadako Sasaki, who was an innocent victim of war as she suffered the effects of deadly radiation after the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima in 1945. She was only two years old on the day of the bombing and died 10 years later as a result of leukemia.

MONTELLO — The next Fr. Marquette Living Faith Series will be held on Wednesday, April 30, at 6:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Parish in Montello.

Students in Jefferson learn about icons

JEFFERSON — Seventh and eighth graders at St. John the Baptist (SJB) School in Jefferson were recently able to catch a glimpse of heaven thanks to the work of Madison-based iconographer, Drazen Dupor.

Students had been studying religious icons in religion classes. In collaboration with art teacher Sally Koehler and with the support of the SJB Home and School Association, students began their first steps on the journey to understanding and appreciating this cherished liturgical art form.

Family Adoration offered in Jefferson parish

JEFFERSON — St. John the Baptist Parish in Jefferson has begun offering family Adoration and 12-hour Eucharistic Adoration vigils on the first Friday of each month. These devotions are offered year-round and are a response to the encouragement of Pope Francis for all Catholics to grow in devotion to Jesus, truly present in the Eucharist.
