POYNETTE — St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Poynette celebrated the centennial of the dedication of the first Catholic Church in Poynette recently.
The parish was dedicated by Archbishop Sebastian Messmer of Milwaukee on February 10, 1908. Bishop Robert C. Morlino presided at a 4 p.m. Mass, followed by a dinner, on Sunday, Oct. 19.
Catholics must exercise moral leadership in an election season, Bishop Robert C. Morlino told over 400 persons attending the recent annual meeting of the North Central Lieutenancy of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem held in Milwaukee.
Everyone is invited to join in a gathering to celebrate and offer prayers for Bishop Robert C. Morlino and his brother priests of the Diocese of Madison.
The picturesque church of St. Lawrence Parish, which stands on a hill surrounded by golden fields ready to be harvested on the outskirts of the city here, recently hosted a diocesan Rural Life Mass with Bishop Robert C. Morlino to honor the farmers and the rural community and pray for the harvest after a troubled growing season.
Thirty-five roses were presented during the offertory at the Respect Life Mass at St. Patrick Church, beginning the Liturgy of the Eucharist on this Respect Life Sunday with a reminder of those who have lost their lives by abortion, euthanasia, executions and violence, especially the millions killed since abortion was legalized in the United States in 1963.

Parish Leadership Day will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 21. The event will be a one-day exploration of forgiveness and reconciliation both as a sacrament of the Church and as a practical necessity in the post 9/11 world.
