What makes Catholic education such a ‘gift’
To the editor:
Before Catholic Schools Week, we, the eighth graders, and the seventh graders were asked to reflect on what makes Catholic education such a “gift”. We at St. John the Baptist Catholic School believe:
• Our school is like a family where everyone cares about each other.
Value of Catholic school education: This graduate wouldn’t trade it for a million dollars!
“I would not trade my Catholic education for a million dollars!” That’s what Ashley Hornung, soon to be a graduate of St. Peter Catholic School in Ashton, says in her reflection in the Graduation section published in this week’s Catholic Herald.
Catholic education provided for generations
“Don’t you want to be a teacher?” asked my friend Joan just weeks before we were to graduate from Madonna High School in Aurora, Ill.
This was the all-girls’ class of 1945, where we were taught by Franciscans Sisters. We had both been accepted by St. Ben’s in Minnesota, where we would be taught by Benedictines.
I was confused. “What do you mean, a teacher? I don’t want to be a nun, you know.”
St. Ambrose Benefit Dinner draws large crowd
MADISON — Just before Christmas, nearly 400 supporters gathered to recommit to the mission of Catholic education and especially making education in the faith available to any teenager who seeks it.
Baraboo school marks 100 years of Catholic education
BARABOO — Over 1,200 invitations were sent to past graduates, staff, and faculty for a centennial celebration and reunion that will take place at St. Joseph School on Saturday, Oct. 3.
The festivities will begin with Mass at 4 p.m. celebrated by Fr. Larry Bakke. Following Mass, all are invited to the school for supper, an open house, and entertainment. Alumni can take time to tour the school, laugh over memorabilia, and enjoy connecting with past acquaintances.
