It’s a ‘great occasion’

Bishop Robert C. Morlino of Madison called it a “great occasion for the Diocese of Madison as the Lord gives us two wonderful new priests.”

Fr. Scott Jablonski and Fr. James Leeser were ordained to the priesthood of Jesus Christ on Friday, June 27, at St. Maria Goretti Church in Madison.

New worship schedule for Fort Atkinson and Palmyra

FORT ATKINSON/PALMYRA — St. Joseph Parish in Fort Atkinson and St. Mary Parish in Palmyra will have a new weekend worship schedule effective the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, July 5 and 6.

The new schedule is:

  • Saturday: 5 p.m. Mass at St. Joseph; 7 p.m. Mass in Spanish at  St. Joseph
  • Sunday: 7 a.m. Mass at St. Joseph; 8:45 a.m. Mass at St. Mary; 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Joseph

Bishop Morlino calls canonizations a ‘special gift from God’

This column is the bishop’s communication with the faithful of the Diocese of Madison. Any wider circulation reaches beyond the intention of the bishop.

Dear Friends,

Last week I was blessed to take part in the wonderful Canonization ceremony and Mass of Thanksgiving for St. John Paul II and St. John XXIII. The experience certainly was one of the most precious of my entire life.

I was blessed to visit Rome for the first time in the mid-’70s and God’s providence has enabled me to return a good number of times. Yet, never once have I seen Rome so crowded as it was during those days leading up to the Canonizations. More so than the crowds that might gather at a secular event such as a World’s Fair, I was reminded of the crowds that fill the streets at World Youth Days.

‘Reverential joy’ in the air

There was not only a wonderful spirit of devotion, but also a tremendous number of energetic young people who moved around the city, even through the night, attending the numerous programs and opportunities for prayer in the various churches around Rome.

Feast of St. Philip the Apostle to be celebrated at Highland church

HIGHLAND — The Feast of St. Philip the Apostle will be celebrated with a Mass on Sunday, May 4, at 1 p.m. at St. Philip Church.

Through the efforts of many supporters, St. Philip Church — built in 1888 — has been well preserved. It is a significant part of the SS. Anthony and Philip Parish community and the Highland community as a whole.

MONTELLO — The next Fr. Marquette Living Faith Series will be held on Wednesday, April 30, at 6:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Parish in Montello.

Speakers will be John and Sarah Ramthun, founders of the non profit organization 6:8 from Sauk Prairie. 6:8 is local non– profit organization that strives to transform communities by making service personal through intentional community. 6:8 is supported by the four pillars of: Experience (Micah 6:8), Education (Mark 6:8), Exhortation (Isaiah 6:8), and Embodiment (1 Timothy 6:8)

MADISON — The 75th semi-annual International Rosary March will be held on Sunday, May 4, at 2 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Church, 120 W. Johnson St.

Students in Cuba City perform play about Venerable Father Mazzuchelli

CUBA CITY — Venerable Fr. Samuel Mazzuchelli died on February 23, 1864.

In recognition of the 150th anniversary of his death, the students of St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in Cuba City presented the play Medicine for Wildcat on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at St. Rose Church.
