St. Anthony the Great had a problem. He was 105 years old, he lived in fourth-century Egypt, and he was famous.

He did not want to be embalmed. But the common practice at the death of eminent personages such as himself was to preserve them, pose them on couches, and to keep them in their houses.

This was intended to honor the deceased.

Damian Lenshek named Director of Cemeteries

MADISON — Damian Lenshek, who joined the Diocese of Madison in October as Manager of Special Projects, has been named Diocesan Director of Cemeteries.

Msgr. James Bartylla, diocesan administrator, and Eric Schiedermayer, director of the diocesan curia, announced that Damian Lenshek has been appointed Diocesan Director of Cemeteries, effective immediately.

Lenshek will take over diocesan cemeteries, while continuing to assist with a number of diocesan projects in the chancery.

MADISON — Damian X. Lenshek joined the Diocese of Madison as Manager of Special Projects. In that capacity, he will assist with initiatives in operations, communications, planning, development, and technology.

He comes to the diocese with over 12 years of experience in organizational management, process improvement, and fundraising initiatives for Catholic nonprofit organizations.
