Fr. Mike Klarer will celebrate 35th anniversary

MONROE — Fr. Mike Klarer, pastor emeritus of St. Clare of Assisi Parish, Monroe, will celebrate the 35th anniversary of his ordination on Sunday, June 15, at St. Victor Church, Monroe, with a 3 p.m. liturgy. All are invited to the celebration.

Father Klarer will be the celebrant of the Mass with concelebrants Fr. Larry Bakke, pastor of St. Clare of Assisi Parish and director of the Apostolate to the Handicapped, Diocese of Madison; Msgr. Michael E. Hippee, retired pastor, Milwaukee; Fr. Steve J. Kortendick, pastor of St. Jerome Parish, Columbus; Fr. Gary L. Krahenbuhl, priest son of St. Victor Parish, Monroe, and pastor of St. Mary Parish, Portage; Fr. William Nolan, retired pastor, Madison; Fr. Michael A. Resop, classmate and pastor of St. Luke Parish, Plain; Fr. Bernard Rott, pastor of Holy Ghost Parish, Dickeyville; Fr. Kent Schmitt, retired pastor, Monroe; Fr. William J. Seipp, retired pastor, Cassville; Fr. Gary A. Wankerl, pastor of Holy Mother of Consolation Parish, Oregon; and other priests of the Diocese of Madison.

Stepping Stone Apartments opens in Wisconsin Dells

WISCONSIN DELLS — The Society of St. Vincent de Paul and the Stepping Stone Committee would like to welcome the Wisconsin Dells community to the official opening of the Stepping Stone Apartments on Friday, May 30, and Saturday, May 31.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 30, at 1 p.m. marking the official opening of the apartments. Included in this ceremony will be the consecration of the buildings by Fr. Michael Richel, pastor of St. Cecilia Parish in Wisconsin Dells.

Open for viewing

After the ceremonies, the apartments and the refurbished Wolfram home will be open for viewing. Refreshments will be served.

All Saints Parish celebrates completion of building project phase II

BERLIN — All Saints Parish celebrated completion of their phase II building project, which included a new parish hall with a spacious, well-equipped kitchen and an administrative wing.

During the weekend of April 26 and 27, Pastor Fr. Jerome Maksvytis blessed the new additions and joined his parishioners in exploring the new spaces.

Multiple-purpose use

The parish hall is designed to be utilized for multiple purposes, including basketball hoops that are attractively hidden overhead with retracting doors. The floor is a sports carpet with the basketball court outlined in the design of the carpet.

Why Jesus is God: Debunking skeptics

It’s Easter time, and that means that the mainstream media and publishing houses can be counted upon to issue debunking attacks on orthodox Christianity.

The best-publicized of these is Bart Ehrman’s book, How Jesus Became God. Once a devout Bible-believing evangelical Christian, trained at Wheaton College, the alma mater of Billy Graham, Ehrman “saw the light” and became an agnostic scholar and is on a mission to undermine the fundamental assumptions of Christianity.

Jesus just an ‘itinerant preacher’

In this most recent tome, Ehrman lays out what is actually a very old thesis, going back at least to the 18th century and repeated ad nauseam in skeptical circles ever since, namely, that Jesus was a simple itinerant preacher who never claimed to be divine and whose “resurrection” was in fact an invention of his disciples who experienced hallucinations of their master after his death.

Ehrman, like so many of his skeptical colleagues across the centuries, presents this thesis as though he has made a brilliant discovery. But basically, it’s the same old story.

A mother experienced this when she overheard Danny, her five-year-old son, talk with his friend Jeremy whose father recently died.

Divine Mercy Spanish retreat

MAZOMANIE — The Hispanic ministry of Divine Mercy Parish in Sauk City will be hosting a Hispanic Retreat for Lent at St. Barnabas Church, 410 Cramer St. in Mazomanie, on Saturday, April 5, and Saturday, April 12, beginning at 9:30 a.m. and concluding with a Hispanic Mass at 6:30 p.m.

Planned for the retreat are talks, time to share ideas and ask questions, music, sharing of food, and more. Childcare, complete with child activities, will be provided.

Students in Cuba City perform play about Venerable Father Mazzuchelli

CUBA CITY — Venerable Fr. Samuel Mazzuchelli died on February 23, 1864.

In recognition of the 150th anniversary of his death, the students of St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in Cuba City presented the play Medicine for Wildcat on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at St. Rose Church.
