Monroe Clinic hosts Christmas Festival

MONROE — Monroe Clinic Volunteers in Partnership (MCVIP) will host their annual Christmas Festival on Friday, Dec. 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Monroe Clinic Founder’s Hall, in the lower level at 515 22nd Ave.

This year, MCVIP has created many beautiful gift baskets that are wonderful for Christmas giving. The annual tradition features a catered lunch by Barb’s Kitchen, coffee, fresh pastries made by Boomerang Bakery, Prairie Stone gift items, a 50/50 raffle, and a silent auction.

King Fest Chili/Soup Cook-Off heats up in McFarland

MCFARLAND — Chili, one of America’s most popular soups, has a long and rich history. The number and variety of recipes grows daily.

Arguments lasting decades concerning the addition of meat to chili continue to rage without resolution and stories abound regarding its origins.

Enthusiasts of chili say one possible though far-fetched starting point comes from Sister Mary of Agreda, a Spanish nun in the early 1600s who never left her convent yet had out-of-body experiences in which her spirit was transported across the Atlantic to preach Christianity to the Indians.

Ground breaks on new Edgewood College residence hall

MADISON — Just several days after the end of another school year, Edgewood College looked to the future with the start of another building project.

As supporters and guests gathered on campus, Chair of the Board of Trustees Gary Schaefer welcomed everyone to what he called a “great occasion at Edgewood College.”

On Thursday, May 28, ground was broken on what will be the college’s newest residence hall.

All Saints Parish celebrates completion of building project phase II

BERLIN — All Saints Parish celebrated completion of their phase II building project, which included a new parish hall with a spacious, well-equipped kitchen and an administrative wing.

During the weekend of April 26 and 27, Pastor Fr. Jerome Maksvytis blessed the new additions and joined his parishioners in exploring the new spaces.

Multiple-purpose use

The parish hall is designed to be utilized for multiple purposes, including basketball hoops that are attractively hidden overhead with retracting doors. The floor is a sports carpet with the basketball court outlined in the design of the carpet.

Trivia Night to raise funds for solar panels

MADISON — All are invited to attend a fun and brain-stimulating night of mental Olympics at Trivia Night II to be held at the St. Thomas Aquinas social hall, 602 Everglade Dr., on Saturday, March 29, from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

Cost is $20 per person. Either bring your own team (up to 10 people) or you will be will paired up the night of the event.

Identity theft seminar to be held at Cross Plains parish

CROSS PLAINS — A free identity theft educational seminar will be held on Sunday, March 30, from 12 noon to 12:30 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Parish in the Fellowship Hall, 2947 Thinnes St.

The seminar is hosted by Catholic Financial Life and will be led by Neil Purtell, a retired FBI agent who has been an identity theft consultant with Associated Bank for seven years.

Gracyalny family shares musical talents

BELOIT — It’s a spirited group when three generations of the Gracyalny family gather to share their significant musical talents.

In appreciation for their faith and sharing their musical gifts, they will present “The Gracyalny Family Concert” featuring top hits of the 1950s and 1960s on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. in Assumption Hall at Our Lady of the Assumption (OLA) Church.

They promise an evening of vocal and instrumental music, goodwill, and a variety of homemade desserts.
