Easter’s eternal surprise

In February 1991, during Operation Desert Storm, Ruth Dillow received the sad news from the Pentagon that her son Clayton had stepped on a mine in Kuwait and was killed.
Ruth said that the grief and shock she felt was almost unbearable. For three days she wept constantly. For three days family and friends tried to comfort her, but they could not. Her grief was too great! She felt some of the grief that Mary surely experienced when her son, Jesus, was crucified.
Surprising news
After the third day, the telephone rang. “It’s just another stranger trying to comfort me,” she thought. Reluctantly, she picked up the phone. The voice on the phone shouted joyfully, “Mom, it’s me. I’m still alive! It’s me!”

Finding life in infertility

We were one of those crazy couples. We wanted six or seven children (and still do!) when we were married.
Even though we didn’t have any money, we said “God will provide!” and did not use contraception or Natural Family Planning.
In fact, when we were dating, I remember having a conversation about children. Chris asked me, “How many children do you want? I was thinking six.”
“As many as God will give us!” I responded joyfully.
But, it has been almost 10 years, and we still do not have any children. I certainly did not think that when I said “as many as God will give us,” that that might be none.
New Hannah’s Hope infertility support group
VERONA — Infertility is a tough cross to carry, and many women feel very isolated and without support in this area.
Infertility is often something we are unwilling or unable to share with others. As women, especially Catholic women, bringing new life into this world is at the very core of who we are. Not being able to do so is very painful.
And, unfortunately, while infertility certainly affects men, it affects them very differently than it does women. No matter how caring and supportive her husband is, many women suffering from infertility feel very alone.
‘Celebration of Life’ held
MADISON — If there were one word to describe the recent “Celebration of Life” event at the Alliant Energy Center, it would be “thanks.”
The evening had a mood of gratitude from both those who put on the benefit dinner and those who attended.
The event was an opportunity for Our Lady of Hope Clinic and the Women’s Care Center of Madison (WCC) to show how they have worked to build a “Culture of Life” in Dane County.
Threads of Hope: Providing hope for families in the Philippines
BERLIN — As a part of our local wellness campaign, “Read. Run. Reach,” All Saints Catholic School (ASCS) in Berlin is partnering with an organization called “Threads of Hope” in an effort to provide hope for families at risk and in need in the Philippines and for children and their families in our own community who may need medical assistance.
It has been over four months since Typhoon Haiyan wreaked havoc in the Philippines, but the effects of the storm are still very visible. Many families continue to suffer from the aftermath of the Super Storm, which left nearly the entire island in shambles.
