God can shape us into who we are called to be, no matter the challenge

A startling truth that struck me as a young priest was the number of people I encountered in the parish who struggled with chronic depression, anxiety, chemical imbalances, a borderline personality, or other forms of psychological and mental challenges.

Many of them were married, held jobs, volunteered in the parish, and were remarkably productive but suffered profound anguish in their minds and hearts.

Sadly, a taboo still clings to psychological illness.

Most people can talk about cancer, heart conditions, and medical treatments of all kinds, but problems of the mind are often feared and denied.

Bishop Hying leads St. Joseph Men’s Retreat

“Our deepest identity is as beloved sons of the Father,” Bishop Donald J. Hying of Madison said, as he spoke to over 80 men from approximately 20 parishes at Camp Gray in rural Reedsburg.

This was the 14th Men’s Retreat, sponsored annually by St Joseph’s Catholic Parish in Baraboo.

This year’s theme was, “Men After God’s Own Heart.”

Bishop calls on men to be ‘St. Joseph Strong’

PINE BLUFF — “Now is the time for St. Joseph” says the new book Consecration to St. Joseph: The Wonders of Our Spiritual Father by Fr. Donald Calloway, MIC.

Each man who attended the Knights of Divine Mercy event at St. Mary Church in Pine Bluff on February 7 received a copy of this book to embark on their own journey to be “St. Joseph Strong”.

More than 300 men were in attendance and heard a talk by Bishop Donald J. Hying of Madison.

Bishop to lead men in consecration to St. Joseph

PINE BLUFF — Bishop Donald J. Hying will be coming to St. Mary of Pine Bluff Parish, 3637 CR P, on Friday, Feb. 7, to launch the “St. Joseph Strong” challenge, calling all men to enter into the 33 Day Consecration to St. Joseph (February 16 to March 19, Feast of St. Joseph).

All men who attend will receive a free copy of Fr. Donald Calloway’s book, Consecration to St. Joseph, along with a free “St. Joseph Strong” challenge coin.

Bishop to lead Men’s Retreat February 1

BARABOO — Bishop Donald J. Hying will be the featured speaker for the St. Joseph Parish Men’s Retreat on Saturday, Feb. 1.

St. Joseph Parish in Baraboo is organizing this annual event, which will be held at Camp Gray, located at E10213 Shady Lane Rd., Reedsburg. The retreat is open to all men in the diocese.
