The anchorless boat
Dear Readers, one beautiful day in late May, long ago and far away (actually, not that far away — Lake George is a 500-acre lake straddling the Indiana-Michigan stateline), my cousin Dori and I were thrilled that the grown-ups had finally agreed to let us take the row boat out on our own.
The influencer
I was recently reading an article about the job market — what the highest paying occupations are these days, what positions are most in demand, etc. It’s not that I’m planning to reenter the work force anytime soon, but you never know.
The powerful impact of one little word
This Lent, I’m determined to do the difficult work of discerning God’s will for me on a daily basis, prefacing my petitionary prayers by professing my faith, and remembering that actions speak louder than words (or wants or wishes), even if it means the occasional slap in the face to get my attention!
The cave and the clock
My husband and I always agree on when the Christmas decorations should be taken down, but this year we disagreed on what should be taken down.
Reflections from the kids’ table
Overall, the message that “Everything old is new again!” is a hopeful one!
A visit from St. Nicholas*, revisited
Dear Readers, in case some of you are fact-checking, I will confess that for the first time ever I’ve succumbed to the use of hyperbole here and there in this column, but only because I wanted to make sure my message was clear — we must all avoid the perils of pursuing perfectionism lest we trade Spirit for spirit.
The good old days
In every age throughout history, human life has always been and will always be a mixture of pain and joy, suffering and celebration, bad times and good times.
Sundowning
Dear Readers. Perhaps you’ve heard of “sundowning,” a condition also known as Sundowner’s Syndrome or Late Day Confusion. I firmly believe sundowning is not a physical nor mental nor emotional manifestation; I think it’s a spiritual one.
Some assembly is required
Perhaps the most critical of the creative projects we’re tasked with is that ongoing process of self-assembly; we’ve been given a part in the process but a successful outcome depends on us following His directions, His instructions written on our hearts.
