Gathering on Mental Health at Durward’s Glen

BARABOO — The second Gathering on Mental Health will be held Friday and Saturday, May 12 to 13, at Durward’s Glen Retreat Center.

The gathering is sponsored by Durward’s Glen Retreat Center, with financial support from SSM Health and in partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)–Sauk County, Prevent Suicide Columbia County, St. Clare Hospital Parish Nurse Coalition, St. Joseph Parish in Baraboo, and Aging & Disability Resource Center of Eagle Country–Baraboo Office.

Pentecost Vigil to be held at Boscobel church

BOSCOBEL — A Pentecost Candlelight Vigil will be held on Saturday, May 14, at 7 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Boscobel.

This local vigil is being held in conjunction with the worldwide Pentecost Vigil, titled the Wild Goose Project, established by Fr. Dave Pivonka, TOR, in collaboration with Dumb Ox Ministries and The Vigil Project.

Wild Goose Project

The Wild Goose Project is an attempt to invite Catholic Christians into a more profound life-giving relationship with the Holy Spirit. This is a relationship marked by the love of God which breathes life into our daily existence.

Midwest Call to Chivalry camp held at Durward’s Glen

BARABOO — The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP) is an organization of lay Catholic Americans concerned about the moral crisis shaking the remnants of Christian civilization.

Its origins date back to January 1971, when the first TFP members started to group around the publication Crusade for a Christian Civilization.

Today, with over 120,000 active members, volunteers, and donors, the TFP is on the front lines of the “Culture War,” peacefully defending the values of tradition, family, and private ownership.

Raising awareness of mental health issues

Cathy Lins

Along the mental health continuum are three major mental health states in which individuals can be located at various times in their lives.

At the “healthy” end of the continuum are individuals experiencing well-being, a state of good mental and emotional health. These individuals may experience stress and discomfort resulting from occasional problems of everyday life, but they experience no impairment to daily functioning.

Advent reflection for adults in DeForest

DEFOREST — There will be an adult night of Advent reflection Monday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. at St. Olaf Church, 623 Jefferson St., DeForest.

The Parish and Community Life Commission has planned a quiet evening of reflection to begin the Advent season. All parishioners and their guests are invited to “prepare the way.”

Marie Lins from the Diocese of Madison Office of Evangelization and Catechesis will be the guest speaker.

Durward’s Glen to host Fall Festival

BARABOO — Durward’s Glen will host its 2014 Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at W11876 McLeisch Rd. in Baraboo.

Vendors will be set up in and around the Main Lodge and Artist’s Cottage, allowing visitors a look inside these historic buildings. Vendors can still register for outside spots by contacting Cathy Lins at 608-356-8113 or emailing [email protected]

Baraboo students’ artwork on display

MADISON — Students from throughout the southern half of Wisconsin, including St. Joseph Catholic School in Baraboo, worked on nature-based art “messages” that will be sent to Cuba through the Children Are The Hope (CATH) program.

Students from 14 Wisconsin and Cuban schools took part in the environmental and cultural education program and international art exchange during the 2013 to 2014 school year.

Gallery hosts exhibit

From May 26 to 31, the Common Wealth Gallery in Madison will host a collection of nature-based artwork created by the fourth and fifth grade students and similar-aged students from northcentral Cuba.

Nora Durst receives the Jack McBride Leadership in Ministry Award

MADISON — At 90 years, Nora Durst is still going strong in her service to the Church.

She received the Jack McBride Leadership in Ministry Award on September 26. The Madison Diocese Religious Educator’s Organization (MDREO) recognized her for her service at their recent Catechetical Convocation at the Bishop O’Connor Center.

Sharing her faith

For over 60 years, Durst has been involved in faith formation, and a beautiful witness to others in sharing her Catholic faith. When asked about her work for the Church, she replied, “I did what I saw needed to be done.” And that has included a variety of roles and tasks over the years.
